    1. [AUS-SAGEN] Barbara Shearer photo
    2. Geoff & Helen Hall
    3. Hi list I have been going through a pile of old family photos and I found a lovely photo of a Barbara Shearer (not one of my ancestors) aged about 10 years. My guess is that she would have been born about 1915. The photo was taken at an Adelaide school. I'm happy to give it to anyone out there who has a connection. Please reply off list. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] ship TORY/Boyce names
    2. Sieglinde Boyce
    3. Dear Listers, Once again I have gone through some newspaper articles and came across the ship 'TORY' which arrived in South Australia 17th November 1851. I notice a William and Mary Boyce listed. They may have been brother and sister, or husband and wife. Can anyone suggest what next step I could take to follow up the details of this "couple" arriving. Of course I realise that in time Mary if she was not married to that William would have changed her name. many thanks, Sieglinde.

    2. Paula
    3. Hi listers I realise that this isn't a SA query, but I have hit a brick wall in obtaining information & would like to "pick your minds". I have an ancestor who was, as mentioned in nla trove newspapers (1890/1892) a prospector, mining surveyer & pioneer all in the Nuntherungie silver fields, NSW. He died at the fields in 1892 & by his death certificate is buried there. My query is that in one of the newspaper articles it mentions that with 2 other gentlemen he took up 4 blocks. I am wondering where to go to try & locate which blocks & where they were in relation to the mine. I believe he may have been involved with the Nuntherungie Proprietary which mined in the area, where would one go to find who was a member/owner, etc. I have googled but can't seem to find what I am looking for. I've looked on the NSW lands dept site & its historical records site, but for some reason I can't get the map to appear & from what I can work out, it hasn't been processed yet. Has anyone got any other sites I can try?? Thank you for your time Paula

    1. [AUS-SAGEN] SAGHS present Dr. Richard Reid speaking on "The Irish In Australia"
    2. Ros Dunstall
    3. THE IRISH IN AUSTRALIA The South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society is pleased to announce Dr Richard Reid, Senior Curator of the much anticipated “Not Just Ned; a true history of the Irish in Australia” exhibition for the National Museum of Australia in Canberra, will be speaking at a Public Meeting in Adelaide on Thursday 17 February 2011 at 7.30pm. Australia has the world’s highest percentage of Irish descendants per capita outside Ireland, with about 30% of our population having Irish roots. Their story, often tumultuous and always fascinating, goes from the first settlers in 1788 to the present day. The forthcoming exhibition, to be open to the public at the National Museum in Canberra on St Patrick’s Day takes a broad and comprehensive look at the Irish contribution to Australian Society, and at some of the many influential Irish people who settled here Dr Reid, a native of County Antrim, is a very experienced historian and compelling speaker. With prior employment at the Australian War Memorial and as Senior Historian for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, he and his team at the National Museum have been researching and compiling this widely anticipated exhibition for over two years. In his Adelaide talk Dr Reid will be previewing the exhibition with particular reference to South Australia’s free settling Irish pioneers, and those from West Australia. Dr Reid’s talk will be at the Unley Town Hall. Bookings are essential and can be made through the Society on 8272 4222. Entry is by gold coin donation.
