Dear List Members, Would it be possible for some kind person to do a look up for me. I am looking for a death date for John George MCLOSKY. It was either in 1922 or 1924. Thank you very much, Helen
For those researching in the late 1800s etc don't forget the Destitute Asylum in Adelaide. I just got a set if fiche from Gould on them and found a young lady I have been having trouble making timeframes fit. It gave me name/age/born/where living on admission/ confirmed that this was not her first admission with a reference to the previous and the alleged father of the child born at that time Source and date of entry. The year in the reference to the previous admission is the same as that of the first daughter who's father is acknowledged as the man she was married to but it could change the date of the fostering out of a male child with no birth record who we have reasonable evidence to suggest that she was his mother. Because she was living much further south than where she got married and the husband had vanished of the radar suggests that she may no have returned to that area but only went to where she was when the second daughter began her appearance. On the entry was these two words - ENCEINTE PUTATIVE (referring to the father) my Thesaurus check comes up with. ENCEINTE = pregnant PUTATIVE = alleged assumed acknowledge It is not a lot of information but it does confirm part of the family story about her. Another little piece of the puzzle fits. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 7 million users fighting spam. SPAMfighter has removed 6572 of my spam emails to date. Can anyone tell me what identity documents were required to travel to South Australia, and from South Australia, in the period 1870 to 1910? Was identity checked either by the SA government (immigration/emigration), or by the shipping line agent, or both? What proof of identity, if any, was required of accompanying family members? Were there any change in the code of practice over the period? thanks, Barry

And another one please. Trying to find parents for Maurice Francis NUGENT who was born 31 Aug 1888 at Pekina, SA. He married Evelyn Lucy WARD at St. Laurence's, North Adelaide 28 Jan 1929, and died 29 Sep 1982 at Myrtle Bank, SA. Best wishes Merilyn
Hello again The husband here was the son of the previous couple I enquired about. I would like to find ancestors for his wife (named above). Gertrude was born 25 Nov 1919, but I don't know where. She and Robert were married 12 Feb 1945 at St. Bernard's, Belmont, Victoria. Gertrude died 15 Apr 1973 at Hazelwood Park, SA. A birth place for Gertrude would be lovely, and parents' names would be even better. Best wishes Merilyn Pedrick
Hello All Looking for the ancestors of Kathleen Hayes SMITH, who was born 6 Nov 1889 in Willaston, SA. She married Cyril Michael WARD at Glenelg 5 Apr 1914. Her parents' names were William Henry SMITH and Annie Gertrude RYAN. Any help with pushing this line back a bit would be gratefully received. Best wishes Merilyn Pedrick Aldgate

Below is complete forwarded message from the Somerset List. Be aware that there are some errors on the LDS site regarding transcriptions. This would apply across the board - not just for Somerset transcriptions. If you come across errors pls forward them to ldscatalog@ldschurch.org. Thanks, Ros ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Sheila Beer <member@smbeer.fsnet.co.uk> Date: Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 8:16 PM Subject: [ENG-SOM] LDS transcriptions (updated site) To: eng-somerset@rootsweb.com, bristol_and_somerset@rootsweb.com Cc: ldscatalog@ldschurch.org Walton has been transcribed as Walcot. Holy Trinity, Abbots Leigh has been transcribed as St Nicholas, Bristol. Ditcheat transcribed as Curry Rivel. St Philip & St Jacob transcribed as Abbots Leigh These mistakes are not the fault of the transcriber as the field for the chuch/parish is already filled in by the LDS programmers. It seem almost pointless in making the effort to put the info on line if it's wrong - it leads to further investigations being made in entirely the wrong areas. If these few are wrong there must be many, many more mistakes. They check input by volunteeer transcribers but clearly do not check church/parish name. Perhaps we ought to bombard them with complaints!!!! One thought - perhaps the film held @ Utah has got the wrong parish/place attributed to it. Perhaps it needs investigating. So BEWARE!!!!!
Dear List, Would there be someone with the Digger Victorian BMD's to do some lookups for Joseph WILSON and Margaret TAIT. I have the Pioneer Index but no other discs and would appreciate the help. I have found 7 of the 19 children they are reported to have had so a long way to go yet. Two from Pioneer Index and 5 from SA BMD. I have also tried to find a marriage for this couple but that has been difficult too. I believe they arrived from England but know other details other than Joseph was a builder and Margaret died aged 92 yrs. I look forward to any snippets of help and thank you for taking the time to read this message. Hi Paula! The latest edition of Aust. Family Tree Connections magazine has articles on researching ancestors involved in mining with some info on NSW mines & mining. The lady doing the articles is happy to answer any queries. Get back to me if you need more info on this. Chris.
