Hi Alan AWM has the following age requirements for WWI. In August 1914 age range was 18-35 years. In June 1915 the age range changed to 18-45 years. http://www.awm.gov.au/encyclopedia/enlistment/index.asp When researching WWI servicemen for her database, Leslie Jones found a number of men lowered their age to enlist. In the SA database a dozen died aged in their fifties. Bye Maureen M Leadbeater Adelaide Co-operative History http://www.ach.familyhistorysa.info/
Hi Sieglinde George Elliott Forrest served as George FORREST. He is on the Roll of Honour (+ photo) http://www.awm.gov.au/research/people/roll_of_honour/ You can view his service records on the National Archives website http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx Search as a guest Enter FORREST 66 in Keywords [66 is his service no] He does not appear in our WWI servicemen deaths database as that only includes those with a SA connection. Greetings everyone I am currently doing a line in inquiry for an Northumberland born male, Robert HALL, born 1881. If this is the right person then it appears he may have reduced his age on enlistment papers to get into the Australian Army (found via www.naa.gov.au). Was there a cut off age for enlistment in 1916 for the Army infantry? Comments most appreciated Alan Melbourne

I have a faint recollection that there are headstones at Clayton Uniting Church. We haven't been there, but might be able to call in on Monday.... for a quick look. I'm surprised that photos of the headstones aren't on the web. Celebration of 175 years of Settlement in South Australia thoughtout all of May 2011 at various venues round Adelaide etc. Two events of special interest are listed below. PORT ADELAIDE VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE, Saturday May 21st 2011 from 12noon to 1.30pm at 66 Commercial Rd, Port Adelaide SA followed by a talk, etc at THE PORT ADELAIDE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY Inc. HALL Saturday May 21st, 2011 from 3.30pm till 4pm. at 189 Semaphore Road, Exeter SA Pioneers and Settlers 1836-1838 is a new CD being launched at this event. This CD features complete and updated Passenger Lists for all ships arriving in South Australia between 1836 and 1838. This CD contains new material which has never been published before, including scanned images of original Ship Manifests. There are also hundreds of scanned images of portraits and headstones of those who arrived during this timeframe, plus reports of the voyages from the South Australian Register newspaper and other sources. plus Four books - 1836, 1837, 1838, 1839. These passenger lists have never been published in book form. The majority of the passengers who arrived during this timeframe had applied for free passage under the Wakefield System. These applications include the address of the applicant at the time they made their application, which has also never been published before. Further information about these books will be available at this event. The author, Di Cummings, will be available to discuss the above and will provide information on how to obtain these resources. Please add this event to your "MUST ATTEND" List of Events celebrating the thousands of Pioneers and Settlers who began arriving in South Australia 175 years ago. Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm
Trolling through Trove I came across some dates for court appearances “ insolvency notices- imprisoned debtors” for the above in 1855/56. My question is: Is there anywhere available to me to try and find out more about these charges. I would be grateful for any help given Regards Barbara Bood-Smith
