I really have several issues that I need help with please. Jessie ROBERTSON married William Henry SMITH 12 Jan 1920 Christian Chapel Mile End, her father James Robertson, & her age 30. I am trying to determine if her parents were Catherine Hogg HARLEY & James ROBERTSON. I have not been able to found Jessie Roberstons birth. There is notice in the Adelaide Chronicle, In Memorium, for Christine Harley..... "In loving memory of my dear grandma passed away at Hindmarsh July 23 1911, inserted by her granddaughter Jessie". Would Jessie SMITH's death registration show only her father on this disc please? My next problems are.....Catherine Hogg Robertsons (buried with Harley, Hindmarsh Cem.) her death transcription April 1919, shows her children as 2 males living & 1 deceased & 2 females living & 1 deceased. One son is James Andrew Robertson, married Margaret Hicks, buried Payneham. A daughter Constance Harley Robertson, but no marriage or death for her. and 4 other childrens names I have not found and I am hoping one is going to be this Jessie from the newspaper & possibly married to William Henry Smith. I would appreciate any help please. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Section & Hundred maps of South Australia
2. Paula
3. Hi listers I am wondering if anyone knows of an online site where I could download maps which show the hundred or section numbers of property. I am mainly interested in the area around Marrabel, Tarnma, Hamilton in the Mid North. If they include old maps that would be even better. I have looked on mapco, but as far as I can tell, there are only maps of the Adelaide area which includes section numbers. Thanking you for your time. Paula

1. [AUS-SAGEN] Julius Ytzig Edmund ELKAN - bigraphical info?

3. Hi Listers, I have found the immigration record for this man (variously listed as Edmund, or as Julius ELKAN): *** http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/indexes/index_search.asp?searchid=23 ELKAN EDMUND 21 AUG 1879 CITY OF LONDON B 371 010 *** Plus, there are a heap of newspaper references in TROVE. His father was Sir Julius ELKAN, who died in Dessau, Germany, 22nd June 1898, and he himself died 16 December 1936 at Maylands, S.A. But I wonder, does anyone know if there is other information available for him, such as a biography? In particular, I would like to know his mother's name ... only his father ever seems to be mentioned :-) BTW, this is not my own family - I am trying to help a genie who had done some research, but got *stuck*. Cheers, Lesley (In cool, grey Nundle, NSW)

3. Hi Helen A little bit of information from 'A dictionary of local history' by R J Noye (Saddleworth historical society) He says that the springs near Black Springs were originally called Emu Springs and that the remains of the Emu hotel which was built in 1846 by Daniel Cudmore are across the creek from the springs. (there is a sketch of the location which is also referred to as Emuville) Cheers (another) Helen Melbourne -----Original Message----- From: aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Helen Carter Sent: Wednesday, 2 March 2011 1:05 AM To: aus-sagen@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Emu Hotel, Black Springs Trying to find the history & / or a photo of the Emu Hotel, Black Springs Daniel EVANS was licencee from 1883 till his death in 1884 when his wife Eliza took overunknown how long for Helen Advertising on AUS-SAGEN is forbidden by Rootsweb Rules. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-SAGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

2. Freda
3. Hi Jeff, Any idea of approx year, as there is no marriage coming up for him to end of 1937 which is end of 2nd marriage CD. What were his brides names? There is a Death for a Anthony David DOLMAN on 13/6/1964 aged 1 yr whose father is shown as Dudley John DOLMAN of Para Hills. If this is your Dudley then marriage possibly well after CD range! BUT I suspect this Dudley would have been born in mid to late 1930's, thus married late 1950's to early 1960's, so possibly is more likely a son of your Dudley. regards Freda ----- Original Message ----- From: <jfdolman@chariot.net.au> To: <aus-sagen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 12:02 PM Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Marriage look-up > > Would someone with the latest CD be good enough to look for a marriage for > Dudley DOLMAN? > > Thanks...Jeff > AUS-SAGEN Archives are here: > <http://lists9.rootsweb.ancestry.com/mailman/admindb/aus-sagen> > > Websites of Interest on our Blog: > <http://aus-sagen-genealogy-websites.blogspot.com/> > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AUS-SAGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

3. Hello List members Robyn and Freda - list archives will give you dozens of emails regarding the "replying off list" that occurs on this list - probably the only one of its kind in the Rootsweb system. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search Here is a short version of a response I sent to another list member last year: (Some history re "replying off list" Some years back we would reply to list enquiries by posting info directly from the SA BDM CD's, this caused a problem with SAGHS as they said we were violating the agreement we [any person who has purchased them] have when purchasing any of their CD's. So we came up with the system of sending the info to the enquiry "off list" [i.e. to the requester] and then some time later after some "wingeing" we suggested that people who answer the query could post a message to the list saying "replied off list" so that others wouldnt waste time looking up the query also.) If you see "replied off list" in response to a query and you would like to know the answer also, sent an email to the list asking for the same info. I am sure you will receive it promptly. Cheers to all on this evening of the "First Day of Autumn"... 3. Hi Robyn >From Mannings placenames: Friedrichstadt - The name given to a rural subdivision of section 3913, Hundred of Kuitpo, circa 1852, by Johann Friedrich Paech, who came to South Australia in the Zebra in 1838: It is indeed a lovely spot and the old residences there occupied by the Paech family are worthy of attention by rising young artists of the Sinclair and Wadham type. The district - named after the late Friedrich Paech - spreads considerably and cover the thirteen 80-acre sections he purchased from the SA Company, on which flocks were herded in the early days after having been brought over from New South Wales. The original settlement is approached either by the roads running past Mr Gething's or from the slopes of Windmill Hill - the latter for preference.' The name means 'Friedrich's town or city'. Since 1918 it has been 'Tangari', Aboriginal for 'edible gum'. (See Paech Town & Tangari) ++++ Paech - F.W. Paech, MP, born at Hahndorf in October 1861, farmed in the district before conducting a hotel at Eudunda. A staunch advocate of the construction of schemes for water conservation and irrigation purposes, prior to his death in December 1908 he promulgated a scheme for supplying the Murray Flats and railway with water: 'He was a chivalrous opponent, faithful friend. and admired for his gentility and desire to make those around him happy and contented.' The Hundred of Paech has been the 'Hundred of Cannawigara' since 1918. (See Cannawigara) Paech Town was an unofficial name applied to a subdivision of section 3916 and 3917, Hundred of Kuitpo, by Christan Paech in 1870. (See Friedrichstadt and Tangari) ++++ Tangari - In the Hundred of Kuitpo. Aboriginal for 'edible gum'. Prior to 1918 it was 'Friedrichstadt'; according to Rodney Cockburn it was, originally, 'Paech Town'. ++++ re your qjuestion re some answers being given off list, if you would like an answer to any particular question asked, then post to list "that you also would like to see the reply" I personally believe all answers should be on list, but people differ on this question, and I most probably will get told why not... anyway after posting this. regards Freda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robyn or Arthur Coates" <arthurc@netspace.net.au> To: "South Australian Gen Group" <AUS-SAGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 01, 2011 7:28 PM Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] location of Friedrichstadt > Hello Lister members > Thank you for your past help.
