    1. Re: [AUS-SAGEN] John BROWN again.
    2. Jan
    3. Thanks so much, Judy. Now I'm as sure as I can be that I finally have the right John Brown. The family notice of Alexander's marriage even stated that Alexander was the 4th son of John, which mine was. I think a big coincidence if there were 2 such, with connections to Port Lincoln and Mount Lyndhurst near Mount James. And John's burial site is in the newly online West Tce cemetery records, so I now feel I can stop searching....I won't know what to do with myself, so I'll have to finish writing up his story! Thank you to all who contributed, and to Trove!!! Firstly, a big thanks to all who have helped with my Brown and Tassie queries. I now think I may have finally solved the mystery of my John Brown's death, but need some help with some general questions to confirm it. Because Directories had John Brown as a Stockholder at Mt James from 1867 until 1884, I have assumed that he died after this, and did not pursue earlier deaths, until now. Now I find that there is a death for a John of just the right age to be mine, at the end of 1880. He died in Adelaide but was a farmer in Port Lincoln, and I now also find in Trove that when one of John's sons, Alexander, married in 1878, the Family Notice said Alexander was the son of John Brown of Port Lincoln, which was the 1st time I had heard of this as a location for the family. Also Alexander's bride came from Mount Lyndhurst, very close to Mount James. So without the directory entries I would just assume that everything fitted. So, I need to know how entries were made in Directories, and whether some people could be listed for a few years after their death. And could people be listed in directories at properties they did not live on, but held stock on, to account for the overlap of years between 1878 and 1880? Can anyone help me here, please? 2. Paul & Kathryn Lucas
    3. Would just like to thank Mary Ann for visiting the Centennial Park Cemetery and confirming details of a cremation service held at the Cemetery. She confirmed the person I was looking for was cremated and that's why I couldn't find his details. Also a real coincidence there were two people with the exact same name cremated a few years apart. The name is not common so knew they were related. After looking at a newspaper article it seems to be the Uncle and nephew , both with the same name, both cremated at the same Cemetery a few years apart Kate

Now I know I may be asking the impossible here but is there any one who may be able to look up a death notice of Leslie Slyvester BIGGS for me please . I know now that he was buried on the 3rd Oct 1973 in Dudley Park, so I would say there may possibly be a notice a few days before that. I have received a notice from this line for Florence which I can but say thank you to everyone that has been helping me out here. Thanks. Rhonda ( From a very wet Queensland once again )

    3. Charles Wesley CARR, b Ontario, Canada, 9th July 1847. He was the Father of my Paternal Step-Grandmother, and has always been a mystery man, until recently when I found him b in Canada!! 29th June 1882, he married Ellen Leah MEAD. Groom and Bride 36 and 33 respectively. 8th March 1893, Ellen Leah re-married to William WILLIAMS, and stated she was a widow. I have yet to find a death for Charles Wesley and wonder if anyone has knowledge of this man please? The Insolvency court ‘appearances’ (see below) took place during October and November 1884. I have no further knowledge of him after the insolvency proceedings. He would have been +- 46 when Ellen Leah re-married. Perhaps he died elsewhere, perhaps he just disappeared??? Does anyone know of the existence of the Insolvency Court records in S.A? I suspect they have not survived. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Another TASSIE lookup, please
    2. Jan
    3. I have several references to a Robert S TASSIE, but haven't found where he fits in the Tassie family. He was not one of Alexander Drysdale Tassie's children, according to the births that Rhonda sent to me. I think he might have been AD's brother...I know about one brother, Thomas Sharp, and a sister, Mary Barclay, but evidently there were more. If anyone has a copy of BISA, can they please see if they appear? I don't know when they arrived in SA, but it was certainly before 1854. Thanks Jan

However, in several cases there are other burials in the same plot which at this stage I cannot connect to the families. Have some of the plots been re-used by other people or should I search to try and locate these other burials in my wider family tree? Regards, Gaye in N.Z.

    3. Hi When I enquired ages ago at WTC re one of my ancestors, they said that a lot of graves were never leased, but generally classed as common graves. If the grave was not leased then other persons of no family connection with each other are buried there. If not leased then headstones werent allowed, so if yours has no headstone then it maybe (but not 100%) because of this situation. It may just be thast they didn have money to afford headstone. I am finding people without connection in some of the real early graves prior to 1900 and where 99 yrs has expired sicnce death of my ancestor. perhaps a ring to ACA would confirm what your grave situation is/was. regards Freda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith" <judith.bn@bigpond.com> To: <aus-sagen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2011 11:05 PM Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] West Terrrace Burial Practices > Hi Listers, > > Thanks to Maureen I have now located my grandmother's brother > in the online burial records, however this of itself has created a > mystery. > > My grand uncle is buried in the West Terrace Cemetery but there were two > other burials in that grave.
