Hi The latest version of Paf is Paf5 for Windows. Its already sometime- about 12 months- since it stopped being available via Family search. They were still supporting it but have now stopped. However, until six weeks it was available from download.com. However, they have now removed it too. I have searched high and low, in Google, on download sites and all links to the software come up page not found, so it has been removed. So the only possibility is someone that has an old disc. I never had a disc but downloaded it after each computer reformat or for any new computer. Paf 4 has not been supported or available from family search for many years. The same thing would apply: the only way would be if someone happened to have a disc. I am suprised they told you "Mac is not much good" Beryl. Everyone in the industry knows- and even most PC lovers will admit if pressed- until recently the operating system on Macs is far superior, being 20 times more secure than Windows. With Windows 8 PCs have finally caught up, 15 years later. The only reason I don't use Macs is there is not as much freeware software and other software of the type I need to use available for Mac. Hello all... I bought PAF many years ago and have tried unsuccessfully to upgrade many times. I have a Macintosh and they stopped supplying for the Mac because their reason was "Mac is not much good". I was rather hurt at this suggestion because even though I now have Reunion - I do not think anything can compare with PAF. I still have my original book and info. I would really love to get a copy which would work on the Mac, and even though it was advertised it does not seem to have been produced. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate iot. Dear Listers, In another letter I will fill you in all about sorting out the mystery of my husband's Brooks relations. But for now here are the following: on the ship Brakenmoor which left London 4th April 1843 for Van Diemens Land were my husband's little family. Thomas Brooks, 21 years, his wife Hannah 25 years both born in Yorkshire. They also travelled with a 7 month old son Emanuel. Now....on that same passenger list was a Moses Brooks, also born in Yorkshire. I am trying to find a connection between them. But that is not the reason why I am writing this letter. Was just now sent a newspaper article about a Moses Brookes in front of the Police Commissioner etc. South Australian Register Saturday 13 January 1849. I am intrigued about the story as Moses is such an unusual name.. There may be something in your records about this man. He might have come by ship to South Australia with our little family..as Thomas and Hannah (nee Ashton) had some children there, the first a girl born 1847. The story went about a Moses Brookes a Teamster, Port Road. The poor man had wheeled the barrow for a shop owner for 20 miles and asked for his 5 schillings. Apparently Moses had used a lot of bad language and the poor dear was fined 20 Schillings and costs. As you can imagine all this is very intriguing and a real mystery. Wonder if Thomas and Moses had the same father...as Thomas's own child was named Emanuel?? Looking forward to your reply and hopefully something else will turn up. I had enquired from the Tasmanian Site about a ship they could have caught after their son Joseph (my husband's ancestor) was born in Hobart in 1844, but there were no shipping records available from the Tasmanian end. Perhaps there is a record of them arriving in SA...the couple had some of their children in Myponga. kind regards, Sieglinde.

Hi Sheila Yes, it's true that PAF is no longer available to buy. I have PAF5 which I'm very happy to share if someone tells me how to do it. I upgraded from PAF4 and was able to transfer my data with no problems. I guess the reason it's been phased out is that there are so many good on line databases available. I have always loved PAF ever since I got my first version in a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk. I've kept upgrading ever since, but must admit that I hardly use it any more. Hi Sheelagh Try this site https://familysearch.org/ask/productSupport#/Is-PAF-going-away-1381814969503 If one of the links from this doesn't help I would ring their help centre and I am sure that they would help some how. Dear Listers, Thought would write an open letter explaining that the Fox connection, I do not think is my husband's branch. I have found out the following: Thomas Brooks...first of all had ended up in Tasmania where he and his wife Hannah (nee Ashton) had their first child..a son Joseph Brooks born 30 October 1844 registered at Launceston. I had tried to join their 'SWIMMER'S LIST" similar to this. Was told I would not be able to join up as he was born in VDL. Had no clue what this meant, sent another email and was told it stood for Van Diemens Land...Joseph had been born in that period. Apparently it only became named Tasmania in the 1850s. I am still trying to find out on what ship the little family of 3 boarded and ended up in South Australia as there, the couple had: Elizabeth Ann 1853, Fanny 1855 and Benjamin 1857. Apparently the first wife Hannah died 20th April 1863....and within a few months, actually 29th September of that same year he married for the second time. This time to a Elizabeth Grimley 33 years...she must have been a widow as her father was listed as Samuel Bird...by that time Thomas was 42 years old. The couple had the following children: Samuel 1864, William Warren 1866 and Charles Henry 1868. So it looks as if I got excited over the wrong Brooks family. Sorry that I have wasted your time in doing look ups for the Fox family. Have a lovely day, Sieglinde.
Hi List, I have sent Sieglinde the Death for Thomas Brooks And the Bio Graph entry. Dear Listers, Have just now gone through my paper work and trying to tie in a few loose end. It is regardingThomas Brooks of whom I have been trying to find some information. I have a letter here sent to me 2012 and a death notice: BROOKS..on the 14th May 1892, at Adelaide, Thomas Brooks aged 83. An old Colonist. And found another letter of the Admission to the Destitute Asylum 27/2/1890 of Thomas Brooks aged 81 years suffering senile decay. The poor darling seemed to have been shuffled around various relations. First he lived with his son-in-law Henry Fox at Whyte, Yarcowie...this is why I have the feeling that he is "mine". Anyway apparently after living there for 20 years the arrangement to look after dear Thomas was no more available. So he had been put on a train to go to his son John at Kaniva, Victoria. This arrangement was not suitable as this son was in poor circumstances. I wonder if dear Henry just put the father on the train without forwarning his brother??! Letters had been sent to 3 grandsons Arthur, Frederick and Henry Fox for assistance. He died on the 14th May 1892 from senile decay, he is burried at West Terrace Cemetary. In time I might ask someone to look up the Fox Family...to make sure that there is a real connection. many thanks. Sieglinde.
