Hi, I have tried twice to unsubscribe to this list owing to the problems with One Seniors internet. I have to temporarily cut down on my emails. Margaret Boots.
I am seeking information on DICKESON Descendants who I believe to have orginated around Southwark Surrey England around the mid 1800's and in the mid > late 1800's. From research undertaken I believe there were 3 Dickeson family members who immigrated to Australia. Ambrose Dickeson [Circa 1803 Died 1881] Ambrose married Sarah Gear [Circa 1802 : 1858]. This couple had ? 10 children - two brothers, Isaac and Mark immigrated to Australia. [1] Isaac Ambrose Dickeson ~ Born 1844 Southwark England 1844 : Died Mansfield Heights Victoria Australia 1904. [2] Mark Dickeson - Born Southwark England 1846 : Died 1916 Adelaide Sth Australia. Some of Mark's descendants may have moved from Adelaide to Broken Hill area ? ? Parents of the above Isaac Ambrose Dickeson and Mark Dickeson were :- Ambrose Dickeson [Circa 1803 Died 1881] Ambrose married Sarah Gear [Circa 1802 : 1858]. This couple had ? 10 children - two brothers, Isaac and Mark immigrated to Australia. This line of Dickeson family members, were involved in Umberella, Walking Cane and Small Cabinet Makers both in the UK and Isaac and Mark continued this line of work after arriving in Australia in Melbourne. I believe these 2 brothers, Isaac and Mark are 2nd Cousins to my Great Great Grandfather Joshua James Dickeson who was born 1821 Surrey / Middlesex England and Died Lean North Victoria Australia. Their Common Ancestors being Joseph Dickeson and Grace nee Eyre. My Great Great Grandfather was a General Labourer who arrived in Australia 1852 with his wife and four young children following some 4 years later. This Dickeson family settled in the South Western Region of Victoria before moving to the Wimmera Region of Victoria being Farmers and Land owners in these areas. I would like to hear from anyone who has information on any of these Dickeson family members and / or their Descendants. Cheers . . . . . . Gloria.

Alan I don't have any ancestors from Farina but I always watch landline and I found the Farina episode very captivating. My husband and I (on a holiday to SA) passed the turn off to Farina now we wish we hadn't. It is be on our list for our next visit and we hope to be there the day they are baking bread :-) good luck cheers Lyn --------------------------------------------------
With ancestors from Farina I thought the following may be of interest Over six Volunteer work programs-expending 20,000 plus volunteer Hours FARINA -ABANDONED TOWNSHIP - RUIN -GHOST TOWN As it was most recently described, now fits the image of an historic Inland Australian Township Also important is that it truly represents many other locations that were suffering a similar fate but have not had the "rescue" treatment. Our challenge has been to provide for our Grandchildren a REAL representation of life of our forebears in earlier centuries Come and see for yourselves at /www.farinarestoration.com/ <http://www.community.history.sa.gov.au/organisations/farina-restoration-group> On the site is a link to the ABC Landline program featuring this town The group is interesting in preserving family history so if you have a connection please contact the group Alan Melbourne

New for April 2014 is . . . o Passengers: o Quebec Steamboats o St. Lawrence - 14th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 12th July 1831 o John Molson - 13th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 13th July 1831 o Chambly - 13th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 14th July 1831 o o South Australia o barque Pak Wan, from London to Port Adelaide August 25th, 1874 o ship Murray, from London to Port Adelaide October 5th, 1874 Three more Quebec steamboat passenger list for 1831. I still love the Chambly, full names for most. Looking rather Irish this time. Found this on the St. Lawrence "314 Crazy Devil" Not sure who that might be, also "334 Miss Something" ... compiler humour? Back to short-ship lists for SA 1874. The MURRAY is a puzzle because the original list clearly states that all are Scots, except for the Stewart family. However, I have been unable to find them in any UK census records. Others listed as Scots were clearly not! I would love to hear from anyone with family on that vessel. I don't think that *new* for March got posted to AUS-SAGEN, so I am repeating the CITY OF ADELAIDE info here _________________________________________________________________ o South Australia o ship City of Adelaide, from London via Plymouth to Port Adelaide August 24th, 1874 Back to a nice big list of assisted emigrants to South Australia for 1874. We had lots of info about this arrival because of her stranding. I even added some details about one Cabin family. We don't often learn much about them, but this family, the Wilcox, had three trips on the City of Adelaide, so I felt compelled to include their story. _________________________________________________________________ o Ship Arrivals: o Ships to Quebec 1831 (second page finished up to September 1) I love adding more newspaper accounts, as this 2nd page includes many things more than the arrivals of the vessels with settlers, but also some accounts of some long passages with passengers running out of food and getting help from other ships and even putting into other ports. I included a couple of Ads ... one for a run-away indentured apprentice and another was for a stolen horse ... guess which reward was higher ? The names ages and descriptions of the young men would be priceless for family researchers. I'm surprised to see so many settlers still arriving so late in the season Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic). Enjoy !! Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/

There is an index to Divorces for SA up to about the turn of the century, but I don't believe it is on-line. The index has been published, at least by State Records in a volume of papers It may also be in my publication on historical records in SA. However, as I'm currently in Barcelona, I can't help you any further. The positive issue, is that these records, deposited in State Records, are now accessible to the public courtesy of a small social action group called, Friends of SA Archives, which lobbyied successfully for a change in the legislation which made these records, over 100 years old, accessible.
