Hi List Is anyone out there related to or have this person in their tree? Name: George Thomson Death Date: 18 Aug 1955 Death Place: South Australia Registration Year: 1951-1955 Registration Place: South Australia Marcelle Western Australia
OK. The censuses say USA or Foreign Parts, but there is that one spurious reference to Alderney in 1851. Did the enumerator mishear, what else could that be, or could he be a naturalized American born in Alderney? One of those removals orders dated 1858 also says that he came from America (so I suspect that is right) and gave the right date for his marriage. The witnesses to their marriage in 1810 were Mary Ann Payton, John Bugg & Sarah Bugg -it might be worth looking to see if they appear with any of the family in the censuses, in case they were related. There is yet another removals order related to them, dated 1860. One daughter, their 6th child, was baptized later that the other children, Elizabeth Keziah Nelson bapt 16 May 1819 Hackney St John (their address then was address West Street). She may be the Elizabeth Nelson buried 11 Feb 1820 Gibralter cemetery, Bethnal Green aged 9 months. So if Jonathan Frederick Nelson did come from USA, it must have been in the window of time 1781 to 1810 - either alone, or with his parents. I haven't found any travel records for that name at that time. I had a cursory look in Ancestry USA, I couldn't find any birth records, nor naturalization documents that would immediately fit. Good luck with your ongoing search. rgds, Barry
Thankyou everyone who tried to help me But it is New York where he was born Alderney is in New York above one entry in a censes it say in one census it says of 'Foreign Part's' and another 'Alderney - New York - British Subject' I Googled- Alderney and it is part of New York State in the USA Steph on the list - says if it has British subject then he may be the son of an English couple - born there and brought back to the UK I agree with her I never thought of that - I just thought how strange? good one Steph I took at look at the UK Archives to see if there was any clues and the only Nelson mentioned was Horatio Nelson and I known it is not him The man in question was an Artist? or painter possible a house painter - but what kind is anyone's guess he died in 1863 born 1781 As the records are like hens teeth for the 1780s I think I might just have to settle for this Thankyou everyone for your input Please do not look at the UK Ancestry.com - I have scowled this for days and days But I do not have access to the USA records Sincerely Jill
If you look at names associated with the Channel Islands you will see NELSON is there in the 1780's so why not look there for a starter - I am sure you could order films for that village from LDS

Hi Chris On Ancestry there is:- MarriageWilfred Gordon WEBB to Dorothy Jane WILLIAMS in 1918 Tasmania Page # 0353 There is also electoral rolls for Wilfred in Tasmania stating he was a salesman living at 70 Albert Road, E., Moonah. There is a Dorothy Jane WEBB, home duties, living at the same address. This was for the year 1954. There is plenty more electoral rolls given for Wilfred. Regards Sharron McKay
Hi Yes it may mean he never saw overseas duties and stayed in Australia as a trainer or clerical staff soldier - these soldiers were sometimes ex Militia men who were already drilled in army style life so if he didn't actually join the Australian Military forces then he would have received no medals either nor would he be in the current lists until you approach the Archives to dig out his WWI records be they Militia or Army. Militia records are sadly lacking in South Australia but you may have better luck if that is the case Or they may just be lost or misfiled there are particular reference numbers for those records of men not going over seas I think. I have been unable to locate Wilfred on the WW1 National Archives (There was a Wilfred Peter WEBB, not him , I checked ) Does anyone have any theories on this? I have searched "Trove" Tasmania and in 1947 Wilfred Gordon WEBB was listed as what seems some sort of payroll, maybe union, as a hospital attendant of 70 Alberts Rd. Moonah. Australian Cemeteries site lists.. Wilfred Gordon WEBB cremated Derwent Gardens Cemetery Tasmania 26 Feb 1973 aged 82 yrs This must be him. I have searched all mainland marriages for Wilfred but have not located one. I do not have access to Tasmanian records but I am hoping has and maybe able to help. So In short I am hoping to locate a possible marriage for Wilfred and any children. Sorry this has been a little( a lot) long winded but I have looked for people on this list who have made enquiries and wished they had given more details. I also acknowledge that this is out of area for a Sth. Aust list but some one may have some Tasmanian records. Only other option is to see if our State library hold newspaper records for when Wilfred died and look for any death notices. Fellow Genie, Chris in West. Aust.
