It is with a great deal of sadness that I advise that Di Cummings passed away on Tuesday June 24, 2014 in Melbourne. The SA Genealogical world will be forever grateful for the work that Di did with regard to recording and publishing Shipping details of our Pioneers into SA from 1836. Ros Dunstall List Admin

Thank you to those people who responded to my request for help regarding SA births of men who enlisted in the 39th Battalion and who were living in the Ballarat area in 1916. It was greatly appreciated. Robyn Sent from my iPad
Hello Robyn My uncles.. George Thomas POVEY & Frederick Charles BURGESS... both from S-W Victoria served in France with the 39th Battalion. Are you aware of the book (200 copies only)... Thanks Reg for the suggestions. I have checked him out at naa.gov.au and also at the awm.gov.au. I have found the enlistment papers fascinating as are the diaries online and I have a copy of the history of the 39th. I have transcribed the embarkation rolls, including the reinforcements which is nearly 3000 names and so looked at many of the enlistment papers. When I couldn't find a Port Adelaide in Victoria or him in any of the Victorian BDMs I assumed it must be Port Adelaide in SA. I have found so many 'mistruths' in these documents where they signed saying it was the truth and that is just in checking the Ballarat members of the Battalion in more detail. Ages are the worst. Especially when they were older men they put their ages down. Appreciate you taking the time to help. Good Evening Listers, I have been given a family tree of William Henry Britton and his wife Mary Robertson and I'm trying to verify the information. It's says that Elizabeth Britton was born in South Australia in 1849, my great grandfather Thomas Britton was born in 1852. I can't find Elizabeth's birth and I was hoping that someone could help me locate it. I do know that Elizabeth married Alexander Kedzley/lie, I believe that is correct as a. Lot of family names have been used. Thanks in advance Marion Sydney Sent from my iPad
Just thinking, 'some' military types did travel with their 'women'. -----Original Message----- From: Barry Brown Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2014 5:25 PM To: 'Morley' ; [email protected] Subject: Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Help needed please (Jonathan Fredk Nelson) OK. The censuses say USA or Foreign Parts, but there is that one spurious reference to Alderney in 1851. Did the enumerator mishear, what else could that be, or could he be a naturalized American born in Alderney? One of those removals orders dated 1858 also says that he came from America (so I suspect that is right) and gave the right date for his marriage. The witnesses to their marriage in 1810 were Mary Ann Payton, John Bugg & Sarah Bugg -it might be worth looking to see if they appear with any of the family in the censuses, in case they were related. There is yet another removals order related to them, dated 1860. One daughter, their 6th child, was baptized later that the other children, Elizabeth Keziah Nelson bapt 16 May 1819 Hackney St John (their address then was address West Street). She may be the Elizabeth Nelson buried 11 Feb 1820 Gibralter cemetery, Bethnal Green aged 9 months. So if Jonathan Frederick Nelson did come from USA, it must have been in the window of time 1781 to 1810 - either alone, or with his parents. I haven't found any travel records for that name at that time. I had a cursory look in Ancestry USA, I couldn't find any birth records, nor naturalization documents that would immediately fit. Good luck with your ongoing search. rgds, Barry AUS-SAGEN Archives are here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/AUS-SAGEN/ Websites of Interest on our Blog: http://aus-sagen-genealogy-websites.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi Marion I note from Ancestry family trees the Elizabeth Harriett Britton was married in Victoria. I suggest you buy that certificate online as a noncertified copy (cost is about $20) as Victorian certificates can be very informative with date and place of birth plus parents names and residence. Her death certificate in NSW may be informative as well.
