Hi again list, Thankyou to all who have responded so quickly. One very kind soul with French language skills has offered to translate. So for the moment my request has been satisfied. Rade -----Original Message----- From: Rade Au [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, July 11, 2014 5:23 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: French to English translation Hi List, I have found some old handwritten marriage and birth records in French from the http://www.archivesdepartementales.lenord.fr/ website. I have tried to decipher using the various translators on the internet but find I cannot recognise the word/spelling due to text being faint and unfamiliar. Has anybody had this problem before and have they found a solution? Are there people that speak/read French available to do translations? Any advice would be appreciated. I have three records to translate so far. So not too much to do. I get about 30% of it. TIA Rade

Hi Listers Just trying to find people I don't know about. Is there anyone on the list that has NUGENT people is their research My grandfather came from Wicklow, Ireland to Australia with his uncle Robert McLean on the vessel "Jenny Lind" at the age of 10 years he grew up and married twice once to Mary Connaughty she died 1875 and then to Annie Gavin. If you think you have people that might connect by all means connect me and we can "chat" or discuss what you have I have most of the people that have been born in Australia but I am researching the NUGENT 's from Ireland Thomas NUGENT father from WICKLOW connections Cheers Sheelagh
Hi Chris: I am guessing Field Artillery Brigade or Field Ambulance Brigade. Probably the former. Here are possible details from the War Memorial: Boer War Nominal Roll - Edward Trevithick Service Number: 247 Rank: Corporal Unit: 4 (IMPERIAL) CNTGNT Conflict: South Africa, 1899-1902 (Boer War) Native place: Victoria, Australia Notes: Murray Remarks: Lance-Corporal. Name incorrectly recorded on original as 'Edward Trevethick'. Source: Murray page number - 265 Robyn
Curiousity has got the better of me.,. On behalf of a Vietnam Vet, I have just cleaned a sliver/leather/glass hip flask, which belonged to his late wife's Ancestor. He is going to donate this flask to our local RSL Branch It is engraved Corporal Trebithick from his comrades of A Battery F.A.B. April 1900 I am led to believe this would be the Boer War area. Any clues please? Chris Pycroft (nee GWYNNE) Port Augusta South Australia

Interesting site, thank you, I immediately found what I wanted. The list of diocese is interesting. I also noticed that you can search on a diocese within defined dates but without any names, which produces a list to browse - that might be useful way of finding names that have been misspelt or mistranscribed. rgds, Barry
