Dear Sheelagh How long ago is this? Here in Victoria, still births had to be notified but didn't have to be registered until the 1950s I think. I would check with the local cemetery. Browsing cemetery record registers, one often comes across a stillborn burial, often in a communal grave. My mother-in-law had a still born child, many years ago and whilst there is a record of it at the cemetery, there is UKLOC - unknown location - recorded. Doesn't help the grief of the people you are dealing with, but just a suggestion Robyn Sent from my iPad > On 12 Oct 2014, at 6:21 pm, Sheelagh Wiles via <[email protected]> wrote: > > I have been asked to look for a grave of a still born baby. > The mother never saw the baby after it was born but she remembers seeing the police man, leaving the hospital not long after the birth with a parcel under his arm. > She does not know if the parcel was the baby or not but they were not given the baby to bury. > Strange story I know. Probably buried at West Terrace Cemetery, with simply the surname as the identifier in the burial register. What an extremely sad story. Sheelagh, surely she has the right to know what happened to the baby via the hospital records. The baby should have had a proper burial even if it was stillborn. There should also have been a birth or at least a burial record.. If they cant get this from the hospital, funeral people, or the police then possibly she should consult a legal person. I would have thought there would be a cost for burial, so some one must have paid somewhere along the line. If a small town the council burial register may prove helpful too. Even the minister of the local church may be able to help. I have been asked to look for a grave of a still born baby. The mother never saw the baby after it was born but she remembers seeing the police man, leaving the hospital not long after the birth with a parcel under his arm. She does not know if the parcel was the baby or not but they were not given the baby to bury. Strange story I know. I do have more details but I have to be careful also. The baby was not name but they have the name they wanted to use. They also know the police mans name and the hospital the baby born and date the the baby was born. Is there anyway I can help these people pleas Sheelagh
I would like to thank everyone who replied to my enquiry. I think I they have been found under different surnames. Thanks again. Paula
