Thank you to Judy, Stephanie, Andrew & Barry who replied. I think now that Woodville burial is the same as that at Cheltenham even with the different age. I have (just now) found the lady's husband's death & from his obit it would seem that they married in Sth Aust - can't find it though. He was also in the 79th Regiment of Foot Cameron Highlanders so I will be looking there now to see what I can find pre 1857 (first child's birth year). The obit states he resigned & came to SA in the early fifties. Thank you again for all your help. Paula
Like Barry I have never heard of a Woodville Catholic Cemetery, or any cemetery in the suburb of Woodville for that matter. The only cemeteries in the neighbourhood is Cheltenham, which is a large public cemetery, managed by the Adelaide Cemeteries Authority (who has its burial register on-line) and the small Beverley Cemetery, which is a closed Methodist Cemetery. Further afield is Hindmarsh, Alberton/Port Adelaide (closed Anglican Cemetery) and Dudley Park. Is it possible that it refers to a 'Catholic Section' within Cheltenham Cemetery? There were a number of photographs of old pioneers produced in the 19th Century. They were a collage of thumb nail size head shots mounted on a board with a large caption at the head and the names on the bottom based on a grid reference. These mounted photos are in the State Library and may well be on line through their catalogue. The SAGHS reproduced them in the Society journal, perhaps 20 or more years ago. On the subject of Ancestry, has anyone looked at their Ancestry sites recently? The photos I have, (not many fortunately) have been infected with a virus - every one shows the same picture - a collage of two photos and an index of names overwritten by a large L in a circle. The system has virtually frozen. Ancestry has a note that the site will be closed from 5.00pm to 10.00pm today AEST. Presumably they know about this problem. Yes Sue That inspired a Group at Port Augusta City council and Friends to do the same here There are many Babies buried in a section of our Cemetery called 'Black Oaks section' the Grave sites were un recorded and the Babies were buried under the names 'Baby Smith" etc. We had a wall built out of reclaimed stone and a Plaque put on it with all the babies recorded and the year of death and a Dedication Service. This was appreciated by many families who had Babies in this section. It was quite common an undertaker to take such scraps and slip them in with another burial that they happened to be doing.
