No, wrong Charles Herbert Warren at Dubbo. I’ve sent Sheelagh cemetery inscriptions from austcemindex for Charles and Sophie, both from Medindie SA, died 1962, buried at Centennial Park. Never believe what you find on an Ancestry tree, without confirming it yourself! My great grandmother...Bridget Brodie/Brody....was a passenger aboard the ill fated ship Nashwauk wrecked near Noarlunga, South Australia on 13 May 1855. According to Marie Steiner's book featuring this event,, Bridget was one of the girls sent to the unused German Hospital. I am trying to track her actual movements and to confirm whether she was sent to the Servants Depot established by the Female Immigrants Board at Clare South Australia. She married my great grandfather...James Herring....on 5 December 1855 Roman Catholic Church, Clare, South Australia. While the timing and place may well be a coincidence, I am anxious to trace her movements from when she arrived until James died in 1865. An anecdotal family story has her working as a Midwife in the general Clare Region. Does anyone have access to records that can confirm her movements.....Regards.....George

Hi Glenda, there is no record of the death in the index. Have you tried Trove, it's amazing what made it to the paper in Adelaide. Heather -----Original Message----- So I was wondering if someone could access death lists for South Australia in the period say, 1860 to 1875 for one Elizabeth Malone nee Smallie/Smalley, I would be very appreciative. Hello Pat, There was a Mr W Thomas 29, Mrs Thomas 23 and infant 1 aboard the Sussex which left Melbourne Mar 1866. Does this fit your dates? The ship was bound for London, but they could have disembarked at Adelaide. You can find this at PROV Index to Outward Passengers to Interstate, UK, NZ and Foreign Ports 1852-1923 at http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=42 <http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=42> I could only find one child born in SA, Catherine in 1966. The Thomas family grew quickly back in Vic, didn’t it? 10 children between 1868 and 1886! Poor Eliza! cheers, Lyn > On 25 Mar 2016, at 10:45 AM, Pat Wade via <aus-sagen@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Hi all, > > I guess I am looking for a history lesson. :-) > > I have a couple (William Thomas & Eliza Nugent) who married in February 1865 > in Carisbrook, Victoria then 8 months later their first child is born in > Moonta, SA. Hi all, I guess I am looking for a history lesson. :-) I have a couple (William Thomas & Eliza Nugent) who married in February 1865 in Carisbrook, Victoria then 8 months later their first child is born in Moonta, SA. He was a miner from Cornwall, and it would appear that they were in Moonta until after the birth of their second child in Nov 1866 (as the third is born back in Victoria. Now I have googled and in todays cars this would take around 9 hrs +/-, and from what I can find the train between Melbourne & Adelaide was not laid yet. So my question is - What would be the most likely way to get there? Would it be back to Melbourne and a boat to Adelaide? Or was there coach between the capitals? Or was there a recruitment drive that saw many families in a convoy? Or would they just have to walk????? Thank you for any suggestions. Pat

And being reminded to 'ask nicely' ... all I can say that you are very fortunate to have not come across people who don't ask nicely. I run a very large website with a free searchable database of more than 1.7 million entries. Many of the entries provide full details, many require people to follow up records or entries on TROVE or the Public Record Office, and many entries require a request to a local society for a copy of the full record. Sometimes there is a small fee for copies if people aren't able to visit personally. You would not believe the amount of abuse I get if I don't accede to demands that I provide a full copy of the record for free immediately! You would think if someone wanted something for nothing they would at least ask politely. But no - revolting abuse to the point I have considered removing the database and closing down the web site. Fortunately there are some people [not as many as the abusers] who email me to say thank you for information they have found that has helped with their research. Those emails cancel out the numerous abusive people! So yes, people do need to be reminded to 'ask nicely'! Regards ... Just a thought Glenda, have you tried via Military records he would have gone via ship to those outposts and she presumably would have gone the same way, but then ? did they records all those people on passenger lists? Somewhere along the line she has to disappear, i.e. not make it onto a list. And yes I know, older military records can be pretty sparse. Good Luck & Happy Easter. Glenda, When did John and Eliz marry? When was she born? Which census shows the daughters back in England? I can’t see a death of Elizabeth Malone in SA 1860 -75, but there is a marriage of John Malone to Elizabeth McKay reg Adelaide in 1868. Is that your John’s? good luck!
