    1. [AUS-SAGEN] From a UK list
    2. Stephanie Cocks
    3. Taken from a UK list. <<snip>>National Census Could Be Scrapped The National Census due to take place in 2011 could be the last of its kind. The BBC understands that the government is examining other ways of measuring population and other statistics than the survey of all homes every 10 years. In future, data could be gathered from records held by the Post Office, local government and credit checking agencies - thought to be more effective. The government said it was "examining" whether changes could be made but no decision has been reached. <<unsnip>> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Help with Certificates
    2. Lynne Thompson
    3. Would SKS be willing to take a look at two certificates for me please. On the SA Marriage Index (1842 - 1916) it states brides fathers name as MEULPHY, I now have the certificate and that is what it looks like to me, no where can I find a surname with that spelling. I also have the birth certificate of their first child and it also states, what looks like the mothers name was formally MEULPHY, however there are a lot of loops. Was hoping someone that is experienced in old writing could give me their opinion or if someone has ever heard of that name before. Thanks Lynne

    1. [AUS-SAGEN] Message from SAGHS
    2. Andrew Peake
    3. As noted from the SAGHS email newsletter distributed last week, the SAGHS has an increasing number of online data bases available. These have been negotiated with the data base owners, such as Ancestry and FindMyPast, often at some cost to the Society. However, in all cases they are only available to those who access the data base from the Society Library. Generally the data base owners are not prepared to allow off-site access. It has to be remembered that these data bases have been created by commercial organisations, not be philanthrophic agencies, and they firstly have to recoup their indexing investment and secondly make a profit for their shareholders. Its part of the capitalist economy in which we live. Family history is no longer a non-commercial hobby. Andrew G Peake

    3. Hi Glenda, I think what is being referred to here are the database services such as they list...ie the ones that are fee-paying. They are available on the computers at the SAGHS library. Other people will need to check with more local libraries, societies, etc to see who provides free access to them....most local libraries I think have at least Ancestry. To be absolutely sure, give SAGHS a ring, or email. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Nalty - births or possibly deaths
    2. Doug Norton
    3. Could someone please lookup the following Nalty's for me- Husband - Valentine Frederick Augustus Nalty (Police Constable at Two Wells) Wife - Ellen Nalty nee Murphy Married in QLD in 1867. However I have one daughter who died in 1884 aged 19 (Florence Mary Nalty), which makes it a 1865 birth. However I cannot find any record of this in QLD, as that is where both originated from. From Trove (SA Advertiser) in 1910 there is reference to 2 surviving daughters and 2 surviving sons. These are the ones I am trying to locate the births and or deaths of. Valentine Nalty married a Sarah Norton in 1884 in Melbourne, they had 3 children in Sydney and then moved back to Melbourne where they married again in 1916. VFA Nalty died in 1920. There was never any divorce in any of this as I have police records listing VFA Nalty as leaving wife as destitute. Doug and Val Norton Hamilton New Zealand

    3. Hi Tracey, I'm thinking now that the children born to the John M Williams and Jane E in Broken Hill were two more children possibly born to John and his first wife Jane Freeman (married in 1883). I hadn't previously known if she had a middle name and we didn't think that Jane had lived in Broken Hill at all, so it's a suprise to find the births there. My first thought had been that it was another relationship inbetween marriages (they didn't always tell the truth when they registered!) but it makes more sense that they were first wife Jane's children. I'll definately need to order those certificates, what a shame there weren't marriages for Charles and Ethel, Thanks so much for your help, Tam ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tracey Ives" <traceyives@gmail.com> To: "'Tam Smith'" <tamiwell@bigpond.com>; "AUS-SAGEN@rootsweb. com" <AUS-SAGEN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 09, 2010 4:06 PM Subject: RE: [AUS-SAGEN] Looking for marriages > Hi Tam, > > I have looked up Charles, Ethel and John and Jane and they were not > married > in SA or Vic or NSW (as you know) or Qld or WA > > Tell us the story, it might help find them > Tracey > > -----Original Message----- > From: aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com] > On Behalf Of Tam Smith > Sent: Friday, 9 July 2010 2:41 PM > To: AUS-SAGEN@rootsweb.com > Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Looking for marriages > > Hello everyone :) > I'm looking to see if the following people married in South Australia > (they > were born in Broken Hill but our family moved between there and Adelaide a > bit) > > CHARLES M.
