On the NLA web site i came across an entry for Robert buried at Cheltenham cemetery about 26/07/1946. Unfortunately the item is not yet available to view. can some one please confirm this for me, or point me to an online site which carries this info? Now to Pheobe, I have found on NLA a number of references to this young woman in memorial notices for her mother in the Adelaide Advertiser in the 1930's as Pheobe, Pheobe Wallace Lindsay and Mrs Gordon Lindsay. The only other reference i can find for her is the following: The Sydney Morning Herald... Saturday 11 July 1908, page 12. Family Notices GIRLING June 17, at Port Pirie, South Australia the wife of Captain Robt Girling-a daughter. Can anyone assist me with confirming marriage and birth for Pheobe? Her parents were married in victoria in 1893 and i would guess that phoebe would be somewhere between then and about 1910. 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Annotations on death certificate
    2. Steve & Jenny Hamilton
    3. Hello Listers I am wondering if SKS would have an idea about why a number of living children on a SA death certificate might be annotated with an asterisk * ? I have a 1977 death certificate of a lady who is shown as having *1 living daughter when we know that she relinquished 2 daughters for adoption prior to her marriage. Does that asterisk indicate that the informant was uncertain as to whether these children were alive (as might reasonably be expected !) There is no other information on the certificate that explains this annotation. Any inspiration / information would be greatly appreciated. Kindest regards Jen in Victoria

    3. Thank you to Robert for the comprehensive reply. Much appreciated and for those interested it appears that the George Nash that came to Victoria and was married in 1884 and says on his death cert in 1902 that he was 22 years in Victoria was not in South Australia prior to going to Victoria. He was born around 1826 in Hertfordshire (Wheathampstead). His parents were James Nash and Mary Ann Davis. He is a widow with three children when he married Eliza Ann Baker in 1884. She also was a widow maiden name Williams. Anyway again big thank you to those who responded with queries and to Robert for the big reply Cheers Gay -----Original Message----- From: aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Gay O'Neill Sent: Sunday, 1 August 2010 9:01 PM To: 'Aus-sagen' Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Nash George a Blacksmith Looking for any information on George Nash born around 1826 in Hertfordshire was a widow by 1880 had three children one had died. When he married again he was in Victoria in 1884. Because his trade was a Blacksmith I am wondering if he was in South Australia where his sister Maria Nash - (married John Lines the Blacksmith) was. His death in 1902 says he was in Victoria for 22 years..but it was an informant of the Immigrants home who did not seem to know to much about his family. 3. Does anyone have any idea as to who might have owned Wilkatana station c1950   I've just found a reference to my late uncle Walter Alleyne CARTER, being manager of it in 1950. Also some newspaper references of Mr K P P SAWERS ("Pepe"), his son Chip SAWERS and daughter Rosemary SAWERS visiting.   My query is did the SAWERS Family have a financial interest in the property.   Walter Alleyne ("Tige") CARTER and Rosemary SAWERS later married (both now deceased) she did once tell me her father disapproved of her husband to be as he was a wanderer, did he give him a job to get him out of the way, or try and settle him down post war.   Helen

The first two German passenger lists to South Australia for 1856.  It is really interesting to find that so many of these Hamburg departures were destined to both Adelaide and Melbourne.  The HELENE is a great list with good arrival information from both ports, the EUROPA was a little more of a task because the numbers disembarking at Adelaide and Melbourne were skewed by the fact that two familes, (Wood and Kennedy) embarked at Adelaide, for Melbourne, but we got them sorted out.  :-} Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic).
