    1. [AUS-SAGEN] Melbourne to SA.
    2. Greetings all. Am in Adelaide - probably till next Thursday. If you want me to locate something while I am here, then ask now. Hi Kathy. Remember I suggested that listers who were coming to the EXPO might like to say Hi to me at the Expo.... well Kathy did, and I was/am so pleased. Lots of nice people there, lots of nice thing said - about the event, and about my work. I have just emailed SA Memory to let them know that the SA RECORDS has a ship manifest for the AFRICAINE 1836. This is an original document, and is probably the only one surviving in the world. what a find. Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm

    1. [AUS-SAGEN] SPINKS/SPINKSTON Elijah
    2. Stephanie Cocks
    3. Mornin' All! Elijah appears on my GRAHAM tree, but is a bit of a mystery man, prior to his marriage to 'my' Marian GRAHAM, 6 February 1861 at the Res of Duncan GRAHAM, at Inman Valley. The marriage registration states Elijah's age is 19 and Marian's 17. >From his death certificate : birthplace : England, town not known. (fantasic) resident in Commonwealth for 66 years = arrival +- 1857 if my sums are correct. died aged 83 in 1923, so b +- 1840 So, looks as if he was, if you can believe the dates and ages, 17 when he arrived and married pretty much straight away. I have no idea about his arrival, ? S.A. or elsewhere. So, arrival 1857, +- pinch of salt. Wondering if anyone has come across the SPINKS/SPINKSTON name in their travels, maybe on a passenger list????? I understand that he was born SPINKS, and at some stage changed to SPINKSTON. THANKS for any thoughts, much appreciated. Steph.

    1. [AUS-SAGEN] James & Elizabeth Shugg Family
    2. Rowena Gough
    3. Dear Listers I have been researching Shugg families who came from Cornwall to Australia for some time, and would like to try and extend the information. I am hoping someone with SA indexes will be able to help fill in the gaps. And if anyone has been researching this family, I am happy to correspond, having taken their line back to early parish records. James Shugg b. 1797 Sithney, Cornwall, his wife Elizabeth (nee Pascoe) b.1803 Helston, their children and 2 nephews emigrated, on the Mary Green in 1853. James and Elizabeth both died in Adelaide in 1866. Of their children: James, Henry, William, Richard, Eliza, Mary and Harriett, I would like to find death records for William, and 2 of his sisters. William was born 1828 Helston, Cornwall, and I've not found a marriage or death for him. As brother Richard, and 2 cousins John and Thomas and their wives travelled to Victoria and settled in Maryborough in early 1855, he may have followed them to Victoria, but I've not found a corresponding death records there. Mary Ann Shugg bapt. 7 Mar 1841 Helston. Unable to find a marriage or death record for her. Harriett Shugg bapt. 20 Aug 1843 Helston married John Edward Stone on 2 Jan 1865 Adelaide, SA. John Stone's father was noted as Cornelius Stone. Was John Stone born in Sth Australia, and could someone look-up the death records for John and Harriett. I have some further queries with the grandchildren of James and Elizabeth, but I think that's plenty to request in this email. Many thanks for help that is forthcoming. With kind regards to all, Rowena In Melbourne
