Hi I am trying to find an article about an athletics event held ion Kapunda on 18 September 1872. I have looked at nla newspapers on-line which the South Australian Advertiser of 18th September mentions the event is to occur, but I cannot find any articles after the event. The athletic program was arranged by Albert Edward Bird, my great grandfather, who was to run 11 miles in under an hour, as the main attraction of the day. Dear Listers Thank you, I have had help from different quarters with this one and it's solved. Many thanks to those who helped. To clarify, the Priscilla Piearce / Pearce born in 1874, died at 11 months in 1875. Pearl Jane Golding's mother is recorded as Priscilla Gertrude Shugg. This is incorrectly recorded. A number of her children and her marriage showed her surname to be SUGG. This is another Cornish name, and like Lugg and Shugg, there is a theory that these names came from Spanish Armada sailors. Hi Rowena, I have check BDM for NSW, Vic, SA, WA, and I can't find a Priscilla Pearce/Pierce Shugg marrying anyone. I have checked the newspaper site - no luck I have checked cemetery sites looking for any Shugg - no luck. I thought maybe find the parents grave and maybe you will find info. on Priscilla, but I couldn't find them. I have just read yesterday's mail and feel that I must add my 2c worth here. <WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. WHY WON'T PEOPLE POST TO THE LIST WHAT THEY HAVE DONE???????????????> I have been helped tremendously by many on this list for which I am obviously very thankful. I would far prefer that any information is sent to me privately and always that the person who was looking for me just say on the list that they have sent information to me.. this saves everyone from having to read multiple replies to my questions which would drive anyone to drink!!!.lol, and is not fair on the rest of the subscribers either. Also when someone does ask for help, then they need to state what information they have as briefly and succinctly as possible so that the person responding to the call for help knows where to start and not to duplicate what is already known. It is a lot of work that the helpers on this list do and for nothing!!!! If we had to pay for this information then there would be precious little done I'll bet. I am not lucky enough to have CD"S etc that allow me to do my own work, and I am sure that I ,with many, many others are very happy and grateful for people like Stephanie, who will help out as much as they can, SO for heaven's sake people be polite and say thanks publicly for the work done for you.. Dear List Owner and Listers, I am writing to express my disapointment about how this List is being run the last few months.Sure not like it used to be! I thought it was only common courtesy to let the List know when the query has been attended to so there is no unneccessary time wasted by another Lister checking the Info. How long does it take to type and send a 'replied off list' ? Steph and Tracey and other great Listers that help or have helped ( Mike of Canberra is one ) spend a lot of their spare time and effort to help and then there are others that send the Info without even letting the list know that they have attended to the query. Which to me doesn't seem to be RIGHT WAY at ALL. But they are allowed to get away with it by the List Owner. This sort of behaviour makes it very hard to know as I have found myself if one replies and helps the Lister that is querying for the Info if you are wasting your time as they already may have the Info. I really can see down the track if not sooner this List is 'going down the gurgler' which is a shame, there is always a few that have to spoil it for others on this List and in Life in general.
