I am trying to eliminate a possibility of a son being born circa 1888 to a Henry George Norton and a Ellen or Emily Norton nee Withers. Ellen or Emily swapped christian names frequently and this has caused much confusion. Possible name of Harold Aleaxander. The couple resided in the Norwood/Glen Ormond area until late 1888, so I doubt if any registrations past 1888. Any assistance as always greatly appreciated. Doug Norton Hamilton New Zealand

Hi Listers Please will someone comment on the accuracy of the BISA entries I know that dates can be incorrect and that siblings are sometimes omitted but is it likely that the recorded parents' names are wrong ? Thanks Jean
Sent Doug Harold NORTON's birth Lynne
Dear List Thank you to Lynne, Christene and Veronica for helping me with this query. I'd like to provide some research results for the List Archive, particularly as BISA seems to have a 2nd inaccurate record which presumes son Hugh Quin born 1845 married Sarah Swales. It was his father who married again at age 46 to Sarah, after his first wife had died. Below are another couple of requests for look-ups. Hugh QUIN was born c.1817 Newry, County Armagh, Ireland, and was variously described as a Sea Captain, Pilot and Harbourmaster. He arrived on the ship Cygnet in 11 Sept 1836 from London. Also listed in 1837 on the ship Sir Charles McCarthy from Launceston, Tasmania on 8 Oct 1837 under Capt. Duff, which was shipwrecked near Glenelg in Nov 1837 during a gale. He died 29 Apr 1896, and was buried Alberton, SA. (source: BISA) 1st marriage to Isabella LOCKHART on 24 Apr 1838, Adelaide. She was born c.1817, Edinburgh, Scotland, and arrived on the ship Lady Emma in 1837. She died 4 Sep 1863, Port Adelaide, SA. (source BISA) If anyone could cross-check this marriage for accuracy and her father's name against SAGHS, that would be great. Children of Hugh Quin and Isabella Lockhart all born in Port Adelaide: . Hugh Quin b. 1845 . Isabella Quin b.1847 . Allan Quin b.1849 . Robert Quin b.1851 and died prior to 1876. . Mary Quin b.1854 and died prior to 1864. I would like to find if there are any death records for these children. BISA also notes a James Robert born 1841 to Hugh and Isabella. 2nd marriage to Sarah SWALES on 1 Mar 1864, Gawler Plains, in her father's residence. She was age 27 and her father was Joseph SWALES. Hugh Quin's age was given as 46 years and his father's name as Hugh. Children of Hugh Quin and Sarah Swales all born in Port Adelaide were: . Mary Elizabeth Quin b.1864 . Joseph Quin b.1866 . Sarah Quin b.1868 Lefevre Peninsula, SA . Edith Annie Quin b.1869 and died 1876 . Marion Louisa Quin b.1871 and died 1887 . James Henderson Quin b.1873 . Agnes Osborn Quin b. 1875 and died 1875 . Robert William Osborne Quin b.1876 and died 1876 . Mabel May Quin b.1877 . Kate Quin b.1879 and died 1954, Adelaide (Kate Shugg), buried Centennial Park Cemetery. Son Hugh Quin (spelt Quinn) born 1845 may have married Elizabeth Greening with a son Hugh born in 1895. There was also a marriage between a Hugh Quinn and a Maria Smith with children: Sydney b.1892; Ruby Mary b.1893; Anne Florence b.1896; Walter b.1898; William James b.1899; Cyril James b. 1900; and Frank Henry b.1903. If someone could look-up these 2 marriages, we could confirm the parentage of these 2 Hugh's, quite likely descended from the original emigrant to Sth Aust. Many thanks once again for the fabulous help in unravelling this family group. Kind regards, Rowena
Can someone please lookup the births of & siblings of Harry Milton TAYLOR father Joseph on the first cd thankyou Helen
BISA was compiled from info given by families or interested persons Often they didn't know the accurate details so all entries need to be checked including parents names and places of birth. It's good for a guide only and not to be taken as Gospel Helen --- On Tue, 31/8/10, Rinken <rinken@bigpond.com> wrote: From: Rinken <rinken@bigpond.com> Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] Accuracy of BISA To: aus-sagen@rootsweb.com Received: Tuesday, 31 August, 2010, 9:28 AM Hi Listers Please will someone comment on the accuracy of the BISA entries I know that dates can be incorrect and that siblings are sometimes omitted but is it likely that the recorded parents' names are wrong ? Dear Listers I would like to ask for help with the parents of Kate Quinn. She married William Shugg on 9 Sep 1904, at St Lukes Church in Adelaide. Sarah was 18 and her fathers name was given as Hugh Quinn. SA family history shipping arrivals show a Hugh Quin arrived 11 Sep 1836 on the Cygnet from London, so an early émigré. Perhaps this was her grandfather? Could someone look-up her birth please? I would also like to find her parents if they married in South Australia, and any information on BISA on them. Kind regards, Rowena

Hello All Please forgive me for writing to you on the list. I appeal to all groups to advise me where you hold your meetings and store all your Books, Microfiche, Machinery, Library of Members writings etc, Work Stations. What I am trying to find out is if your town council or similar gives you any help at all i.e. Building, Room (decent size) , Electricity,Photocopier. Except for fees we are virtually a non-profit group and we are trying to get some place to call our own for a PEPPERCORN rent. It of course needs to be very secure. Please don't cause a ruckus if you don't approve of this letter, just don't answer it. We are just try to get some ideas of what other Groups do. With Thanks Sheelagh
I am trying to find connections between the different Driscoll's who lived in this area. My great grandfather Patrick Driscoll (1843 - 1909) arrived in SA aboard the Castle Eden in 1862. His future wife Catherine Burth/Byrt arrived in 1864 aboard the Tarquin, also on this ship were William and Hanorah Driscoll. Patrick's father was William, and he named two of his daughters Hanorah. I would appreciate any information on any of these families. Many thanks Heather
