Thanks Ian and Pam. Glad of your help. I have plenty of info re the voyage. It's the chap I want. I know that sounds funny, but I think you know what I mean....vbg ok - anything on the family would be really good. Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm
Have you seen this book? The barque "John" : a voyage to the land of hope Gravesend to Adelaide 1839/1840 / transcribed and annotated by Jean Main (Jean lives in Canberra but I do noit have a contact address) Not sure if there is any relevant information. There are no deaths for James and Elizabeth in SA up to 1915 - thus they probably moved interstate. I was just wondering if anyone has either of those names in their family tree, which would tie in with the above marriage. Kind regards, Sieglinde.

Hallo Lynn and everyone I would like to thank all of you who replied with help for my friend Anne earlier this year. We now believe that Lynn led Anne to destroy her brick wall as the old entry on Genes Reunited turned out to be from a half cousin of hers that she knew nothing about. We have no real idea where FC Caldwell came from, only the tales he told, but Anne now believes that he had married another woman before he went to Padstow and married her grandmother and then moved on again. How we would have found that without your help we cannot imagine. So thanks very much Mary and Anne in Devon, England ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynn Cowan" <ablrcowan@iprimus.com.au> To: "Mary" <mary.armitage@talktalk.net> Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2010 5:52 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Frederick Charles Caldwell born c 1883 Australia > Hi Mary > > found this why on the internet > > http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/community/posts/596603/default.aspx > > regards Lynn > Genealogy is like playing hide and seek. Hi Di A lot of the manifest does not give much detail - e.g. "1 case", "1 bale", with no description of the contents. "V & E Solomon" is not among the named consignees on the manifest but many of the items on the manifest could contain the goods that are being advertised. I suspect that many of the consignees named on the manifest are importers who wholesaled the goods to various retailers around the colony. Hi All, Wonder if someone who has the above index could look for a death for an Anne Burford. I know from family death notices in the Adelaide papers that she was still alive 1915/1916 so hopefully she shows up on this index. Identifying info - she was born Anne Wallace, daughter of James & Mary Wallace DOB about 1845. Thanks in anticipation, Sharon
