Dear List Would there be a birth record for a Frederick Morris WRIGHTSON in South Australia? He would have been born c.1893, and his parents were noted as William Wrightson and Jessie A. Thankyou Rowena In Melbourne
An invitation is extended to you to attend a special fundraising dinner for The Clipper Ship ‘City of Adelaide’ To be held at The Pavilion, Adelaide Oval Friday 5th November 2010 6:45pm for 7.30pm With the announcement by the Scottish Minister for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, that South Australia is the preferred bidder to receive the world's oldest clipper ship ‘City of Adelaide’, we invite you to join us at a dinner to celebrate the announcement and to raise additional funds to transport the historic migrant ship to South Australia. Launched on the 7th May 1864, the ‘City of Adelaide’ is a few years older than the world’s only other surviving clipper ship, the ‘Cutty Sark’. Whereas the ‘Cutty Sark’ was a tea freighter, the ‘City of Adelaide’ was purpose built as a passenger migrant ship to serve South Australia. As the only surviving sailing ship built to give regular passenger and cargo service between Europe and Australia, the ‘City of Adelaide’ represents a whole foundation era of Australian economic and social history. It is difficult to imagine a more vital icon of the making of modern Australia, and of the relationship between Britain and the Australian colonies. The fundraising dinner will also celebrate the 146th anniversary of the first arrival of the ‘City of Adelaide’ in Australia and to help raise funds raised to move the internationally important vessel from its slipway it is being evicted from, and where it has lain for nearly two decades, to South Australia. The dinner will be attended by our Patron, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR Governor of South Australia. Guest speaker is Sir James Hardy KBE OBE - yachtsman, wine maker, raconteur, businessman and community leader. Master of Ceremonies is "Mr. South Australia" Keith Conlon OAM. The cost of the dinner is $100 per person and includes pre-dinner drinks, beer and some table wines. Bar facilities are available for purchasing drinks during the meal. Dress code is Jacket and Tie, or Victorian/Colonial costume. We sincerely hope that you join us to celebrate the Scottish Minister’s announcement and to help support the effort to save the ‘City of Adelaide’. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to email: events@cityofadelaide.org.au. Please also consider bringing friends and colleagues and making up a table of eight. If you can offer items for a silent auction and raffles on the night, please contact us at the same email address. If you are not able to join us, please consider making a tax deductible donation to help save the ship. More information on the dinner and the ship itself can be found at www.cityofadelaide.org.au.

Dear Listers, As I am writing this letter, may have answered my own query after all those years. Can't remember where I received the details of this couple marrying in 1864. If you remember a couple of days ago I had asked for help regarding a John Brooks being born in South Australia after Thomas Brooks, wife and 3 children had arrived in SA. And there was a note to say that the couple had another child names JOHN after they arrived in 1847 but no birth record had been found. This may be the wrong John Brooks...but until someone looks this marriage up for me will not know. Hopefully it will list the father as Thomas and may even have the mother's maiden name (wishful thinking!!) What intrigued me was the place of marriage: SIEGERSDORF...my translation would be victory village or something similar. By the way where is this place. They were married at the Residence of John Waddingter (Plus)?? I would appreciate any information and who knows this may be that elusive John. The letter I had received from the State Library told me that they were unable to find a birth record for this child in the birth register index, this was back in January 2007. Anyway see what you can find for me please. Many thanks, Sieglinde.
Dear Listers, I am trying to solve my riddle working from a different direction. THOMAS BROOKS and wife....came to South Australia on the Mariner in 1847. Apparently there was a shipping record published in the South Australian Register 29/9/1847...where it lists Thomas Brooks arrived with wife, and 3 children. As I still do not know the wife's name wonder if someone could look up marriages of those "unnamed children" with a father Thomas. One child Mary is listed as an adult, so she could have been a teenager....and I presume the other 2 children would have been younger. I have just looked again through my previous records and notice back in January 2007 I had written to the State library, they could not help me with names of the children, but apparently there was some information in the BISA records that the couple had another child on arrival with the name of JOHN but the researcher was unable to find any birth record for this child. Had a thought he may have died!! Sorry that this query is a bit messy, but who knows someone may find something for me. Kind regards, Sieglinde.

Hello. Could someone please help with a look up for the marriage and birth of Albert Richards and Ada Sarah Charlotte (Maiden name unknown). Alberts parents were Charles and Mary A Richards. Albert was born around 1871. Ada Sarah Charlotte Unknown was born around 1873. They both died in Broken Hill NSW. They would have been married early 1900's as they had children Albert Charles b.1902, Cecil Thomas b.1907, Evelyn Mavis b.1909. Could I please have a look up for these and any other children. I would also like to work out whether if there was a connection between these Richards and a Violet Ethel Richards. Violet is the mother of Ronald Albert Richards who lived with Ada Sarah Charlotte Richards in Broken Hill. Violet Ethel Richards aged 19 married Walter Murray Henderson aged 28 in July of 1924 in Barmera SA according to a previous look up request her Father was Albert Charles Richards. No births in SA for Violet have been found with this name as her Father born in 1905. I would be grateful for any input. Regards Ruth
Dear Listers, Could someone please solve a mystery for me. I have the BROOKS family arriving on the "Mariner" 25 September 1847. There is no name listed for his wife but there was a MARY BROOKS...apparently a young adult on the ship and 2 other children. Would someone please try and find some details of this Mary Brooks, her marriage and perhaps children. And this in turn might mention the single name of her mother. I have never been able to make any headway with this family. One of the children I am presuming was JOSEPH BROOKS he married Martha Phillips, and this is the branch that my husband's family came from. For a while I thought the Joseph Brooks born in Launceston in 1844 was "mine", until I did my sums and realised that the family did not arrive until 1847!! In one listing it just mentions Thomas Brooks, wife and 3 children...no names. Many thanks, Sieglinde.
