Cost of copy from the SA BDM registry is $39.50 plus a whacking extra $8.10 to post. You can get transcriptions from http://www.saghs.org.au/pdf/forms/TranscriptionRequest.pdf for a far more reasonable cost of $15 Bye MargM Beautiful Central Coast of NSW

This clark is my gg grandfather Joseph's youngest brother. Their parents were Joseph Clark (1804-1883) and Mary Ann Richardson (c1811-1850) He went brankup in 1877, I suspect due to land dealings. The next I have on him is his untimely death in Sydney on 13 Jan 1885. He was buried the next day so it would appear to be from an illness. Samuel married Mary Annie Brendon Parsons 6 Oct 1871 in Adelaide, South Australia They had 6 children Brendun Clark (b.27 May 1872-Angaston,South Australia) Charles Stanley Clark (b.24 Jan 1875-Angaston,South Australia) Lewis Langdon Clark (b.9 Jun 1876-Angaston,South Australia;d.1960-Sydney,NSW) sp: Frances (Fanny) Lanham (m.1955, NSW [they had lived together since before 1930]) Denzel (Denzil, Denziel) John Holt Ibbetson Clark (b.31 May 1878-NA,South Australia;d.1 Feb 1951-Eventide,S,Queensland) female Clark (b.Est 1883) baby Clark (b.Est 1885) I cant find any trace of his wife Mary, or sons Brendun and Charles and I do not know the identity of the two youngest children. The following prominant clarks are decended from the same SA immigrant family of Joseph & Mary Ann Clark John Allworth Clark ( 1846-1932) Lord Mayor of Brisbane and alderman of the Petersham Municipal Council, Sydney Herbert Ricahardson Clark (1863-1947) District Coroner, Sydney (m Elizabeth [Lizzie] Curnow) William Howard Clark (1865-1941) of Wingadee station in North Western NSW (died in Sydney) Alfred Warren Clark (1861-1948) of South Yarra, a senior member of the Stock Exchange of Melbourne (m Blanch Baird 1898) Would like to hear from anyone who is connected to or knows about this family. I have a family photo album back to 1850 that may contain photos of your ancestors likewise you may have information/photos that I am missing. Geoff Carse Queensland. Australia

I have a friend in WA who researched this family a few years ago for someone else. I helped her with some of them and I recall they provided a few challenges for us. They changed their surname and moved interstate. If memory serves, they were in north-western NSW for a time. I'll forward your email to her and hopefully she still has the info. I didn't keep any info after I passed it along to my friend. Thanks for that information Di. The http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home site has been extremely useful in our search for early family history, so I was quite concerned when I read that it was going to close. However I've logged on to http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper and found it really easy to navigate and to be honest an improvement on ndpbeta so it's been added to my favourites. Sorry Ros, not very clear! I was guessing that between those dates might have been when she died...I knew she was alive in late 1869, and I knew she was born roughly 1820, so I allowed her 90 years! The one you have found adds to the mystery, as it is definitely the same date, and using the Jane version of the name. But the newspaper notice definitely says her husband is John. To add to it all, their eldest son was James, so perhaps the death registration got it wrong. Or perhaps it is all coincidence and they are 2 different families! It happens with John Browns! I will try to see the original cert. at SAGHS to see if there are any more clues, and look more into where James was living...I know he was in Adelaide and not the outback. Thanks Judy, for your quick response. Does this mean that her family put a notice in the paper, but didn't register her death? The full notice says: BROWN. On the 8th November, at Beyer St, Norwood, of phthisis, Jean, beloved wife of Mr John Brown, after a protracted illness, aged 56 years. It was in the Register on 9th November 1871. With names like this, I have been searching for years for their deaths, and have eliminated many John Browns, and not found her at all. In the shipping lists, she is called Jane, but was clearly Jean in Scottish records, so I thought it was confusion of accents. I still think it might be her, knowing that informants often don't get ages right. If it is, her husband was living in Mt James, up past Beltana, and may not have been present at her death. There are records showing that she visited there in 1869. I wondered why she did not live there, but TB (phthisis) would explain that. So, it remains a mystery, but a possibility, unless anyone has any other ideas?
