Hello, I'm from Queensland, and I've just joined this mailing list. I am trying to find information on the LISTON family. Details that I have are as follows: William Wilkie LISTON and Jemima GRIEVE were married in Scotland in 1851. I don't yet have dates of birth etc. for them, or parents' names. Shortly after their marriage, it is believed that they migrated to South Australia. Their first daughter, Ann's birth was registered in Murray, South Australia on 23rd September, 1853. The birth of a son, William, was registered in Burra, South Australia, on 4th January ?? or October?? 1858. What I have NOT been able to find, is record of William and Jemima LISTON's arrival in Australia. Are there any descendants of this LISTON family out there, or any one who can point me in the right direction, please? Any other information on these families would be greatly appreciated too! Many thanks for your help - and Happy New Year to you all !! Cheers, Ally McRae

Greetings all. I realise there are mistake in the work I presented in 2005. In addition to all the names we transcribed from the SA Register, and from the Ship Manifests, I was also presented with a list of SA Passengers by Peter Lawson from http://www.blaxland.com As some of you are aware, I am currently updating all these lists, plus providing scanned imaged from the Newspapers and from the Embarkation Certificates. As some of you are aware,Murphy's Law governs the world. Hence the best of intentions sometimes go array [off the planet]. I am doing the best I can for you all, and know that you appreciate this. And so - patience is needed. Have a wonderful New Year everyone. Thanks to all the helpers. May the number of these people grow, so as to lighten the load of expectations. Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm
Hello, Many thanks to Di Cummings for the info on gold shipments/passengers to and from the gold fields. Unfortunately nothing concrete for me. Joshua would have been 23/4yrs. I have Joshua writing to Margaret Richardson in Adelaide 18 Jul 1852 from 6 miles out of Bendigo. I have Mrs Bird & Mrs J Bird on the Despatch leaving Sydney and arriving Nelson, NZ 24 Feb 1953. Their eldest daughter Lucy was born Nelson 23 May 1953 so Joshua back in Adelaide no later than Sept 1852. So a tight timeline, I haven¹t been able to find their marriage. My concrete block. Thanks again, Gwyneth Sydney
Hello all I am new to this list and would like to submit my ancestor's surnames; they are: Tyrer; Gorsuch; Branwood; Laurie; Gibson; O'Shaughnessy; Hourigan; Davidson; Garbett; Williams; Conelly; Lomax; Feine; Bracken; Doyle; Sheehan; Wilson; Brown; Holland and Hughes They originated from Scotland, Ireland, England and USA and mainly settled in QLD, NSW and VIC but maybe some came to SA (as I have done for the last 30 yrs). Regards Lyn

This family is in my tree. The son of Carl and Johanne Frick. Heinrich Christian Ludwig (aka Louis) Frick born 1848 married Fanny Lines who was born 1856 in Hertfordshire...This couple married in South Australia. . I am a Lines family researcher. I do seem to have way to many children in my tree for this couple. If anyone could send me the births starting around Alfred Charles Frick 1879...somehow I finish the brood in 1900 with a Norman Gregory Frick..would this be correct? Happy festive season everybody. I too am interested in SA Gold Diggers Joshua Bird 1850-1853. Anything at all would be great thanks. Cheers Gwyneth Richardson/Bird
sent email below to Lesley, forgot to reply all !! Hi Lesley, Hope you aren't flooded out where ever you are in NSW !! Try http://www.sefhg.org/index.htm go to databases and see that there are quite a lot of HARRIS names listed. This group are very helpful and I would give them a try - their email is listed on the website Cheers Ros On Tue, Dec 28, 2010 at 11:42 AM, Lesley Albertson <lesley.albertson@bigpond.com> wrote: > Hi Listers, > > I have just been gazing at the Victorian Death Certificate for my > great-aunt Annie HARRIS ... and, for some reason, could suddenly read > what she died of (Tabes Mesenterica - a form of TB) and where she was > born (Robe Town, South Australia). > > And yes, Robe town is in Guichen Bay ... where her elder sister > Catherine HARRIS was born, 10 Feb 1864. Hi Listers, I have just been gazing at the Victorian Death Certificate for my great-aunt Annie HARRIS ... and, for some reason, could suddenly read what she died of (Tabes Mesenterica - a form of TB) and where she was born (Robe Town, South Australia). And yes, Robe town is in Guichen Bay ... where her elder sister Catherine HARRIS was born, 10 Feb 1864. (The place mysteriously written as "Chewhan Bay" by Catherine's descendants - ouch!) Next question, of course - are there any records for the HARRIS family in Robe? Their parents were Elijah HARRIS and Harriet NEAL from Hugglescote, Leicestershire, who had arrived in Port Adelaide 13 Oct 1855 on the "Bucephalus" ... I would *guess* that her father, Elijah HARRIS, was on the land in one way or another, either on his own property or working for someone else. (He began life as a Coal miner in Hugglescote, and later selected land near Dunkeld, in Victoria). Can anyone help with tracking down the family in Robe? I am quite thrilled to have at last pinned down where he was - the only birth officially recorded was that of my grandfather, James HARRIS(S), in Mil Lel, 06 Nov 1870. (Shortly afterwards, in March 1871, Elijah featured in the SA and Victoria Police Gazettes for stealing 500 bushels of wheat - but that is another story). Help, anyone? I would *love* to be able to find mention of Elijah in South Australia, the part of his life I know least about. Many thanks, Lesley (Ex-Melburnite ...now living in Nundle, NSW)
