    1. [AUS-SAGEN] My Favourite Websites
    2. Jackie
    3. Hi all, There have been quite a lot of websites mentioned that I also go to, but one recently was given to me and I go there frequently and quite a few that I didn't know existed. For those that can't afford Ancestry, there is a website called www.mundia.com/au It doesn't give you as much access as Ancestry but it's still great. You can see other trees with the same names and message the people. I'm also keen to receive the list when it's completed. Jackie QLD

    1. [AUS-SAGEN] Favorite websites - and a request for help
    2. sue sifa
    3. The lists of websites has been fantastic. So many that I hadn't found before especially because life has got in the way of the family search for the last 18 months! You've presented so many new leads including discovering that my GG grand father worked for the railways in SA in the 1800s - perhaps early 1900s. I have a memory that listers have talked about railway records in the past - but I didn't save them 'cause no on in my lot worked for them!!!! If there is a site or place to go looking could some one pass it on please. Please put me on the recipients list for the website master list. all the best Sue Sifa

Scotland's People is invaluable for Scottish ancestors. It has pay per view but it's cheap. Google Books is wonderful for finding information about medieval ancestors. Foundations for Medieval Genealogy - ditto Genealogy.com for particular surnames. Rootsweb for interesting trees. Also mailing lists for particular surnames and places. I've subscribed to about 20 to ask questions of other listmembers with quite a bit of success - including the AUS-SAGEN list, whose participants have been very generous. Irish Family History Foundation, obviously for Irish ancestors. Geneanet. Tribal Pages. ItalianGenealogy.com Best wishes and Happy New Year to all. 3. I have written back to David regarding the Congress in late March 2012. While the speakers have been locked in and the program is close to completion, the final pricing takes a little longer, as we need 2012 prices from which to work out registration costs. This involves negotiating with the Adelaide Convention Centre next month, as up to now we have only had 2007 prices. For those who want to be kept up to date with progress the web site, www.congress2012.com.au has a link for registration to receive a copy of the Congress Chronicle. Past copies can be found on the website. Hi everyone, If you have ancestors from Cambridge England, I found the Cambridge Family History Society helpful... http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html Hertfordshire, England... http://www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1/HALS/indexes/ Can't remember if I've seen Scotland's People on the list, but I've had a ball with this website... http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ I recently purchased a 2006 Scottish death certificate and found the informant still living at the same address given, who turned out to be a distant relative! :D Another for Scotland... http://www.abdn.ac.uk/emigration/search.html and I've only just started browsing through this website... http://www.happyhaggis.co.uk/ For the Irish, I've had some success with this pay site... http://www.rootsireland.ie/ This website also popped up in the last year or so... http://www.irishorigins.com/ & http://www.corkrecords.com/ This is an interesting site about the struggles for women... http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~ulrich/femhist/marriage.shtml This also an interesting website on children's lives, but gruesome at times... 3. I am one of those dreaded 'lurkers' who has not contributed much to the list as his research is on hold for a while (and has been for quite some time) but hoping to resume later in the year. That being said, I would also like a copy of the list - if such is to be compiled - in due course. (Hi Di I've been 'doing up' the house for the past 12 months or so and have just about got it ready for the market and when that takes place it will be a case of keeping it spic and span until sold. So not much spare time for a while yet!) the older of the tworobbos at Bairnsdale

    2. Eileen White
    3. Lots of my favourites have already been mentioned many times ie Trove, Free BMD, Family Search, Genuki, Ancestry, FamilyHistorySA and Australian Cemeteries. Here are a few sites I've found usefuI which I haven 't seen (or missed) being mentioned, in no particular order. For Hackney (London) area burials http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~abneypark/abneyy.html I've found quite a few of my London lot here. Graham Jaunay's site http://www.jaunay.com/index.html Hugh Wallis's IGI Batch numbers (to search all the batches for a geographic location for just the surname you want) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#PageTitle Lancashire Online Parish Clerk http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ Found lots of my Lancashire ancestors here. Online Parish Clerks is a great idea and is growing but still covers only a small proportion of UK counties. http://www.onlineparishclerks.org.uk/ Convict ancestors? Try the Old Bailey site http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/ New Zealand old newspapers http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast New Zealand BDM online https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/ A Gypsy ancestor? http://website.lineone.net/~rtfhs/gypsy.html Historical Directories online (UK) http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp It's taken me some time to respond to this challenge as I've been so busy trying out websites new to me :-) so I hope these may help someone else as well. May I please have a copy of the complete list too? Thanks, Eileen

    3. Has anyone heard about this conference planned for 2012 as I have received emails from correspondents in NZ & Salt Lake City who are planning to come ANZ Family History Conference 2012, Adelaide Australia I undertook a google search & found one site that led to another but scanty information at this stage - seems overseas knows more about it that I can glean from living in SA http://www.unlockthepast.com.au/events/national-roadshow-australian-cities http://www.unlockthepast.com.au/events/affho-congress-2012 then I located this http://www.congress2012.org.au/ But no contents of the program at this stage appear to be accessible So it appears that it is better advertised overseas than here (or have I missed something) David Dr David Squirrell

The Council website has cemetery records online. The SA State Library's Manning index http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/manning/ and www.ga.gov.au for finding places I like using www.whereis.com to find the closest cemetery. 2. NewsLetter Factory
    3. I really enjoy this list and feel I know the people who are the continual correspondents. I marvel at the time they expend to assist people ... and have been on the receiving end a number of times. It has been an interesting journey because I am researching my genetic and adopted families. Luckily, the majority are in South Australia. Unfortunately I am not. I started with birth, marriage and death certificates for the genetic side and unreliable memories for the adopted side. It is awkward researching a family you don't physically know. You find yourself skulking around corners. I love reading the 'tips' from this list as well as from some websites. The person who operates Lost Cousins has great tips. I, too, would love a completed list of websites. regards to all Suzy in a very damp Central Queensland. Only a little rain overnight. Won't be going into 'town' (Rockhampton) for a while. Don't want to anyway ... the insects always make a meal of me. We use 50-50 dettol and baby oil (only the recognised brands work, don't know why). Don't go in the sun after use because your skin burns.
