Would someone please confirm this yes or no please, so as I do not go on a tangent and waste time. Thanks in anticipation. Hamilton- evening with an ex tropical depression coming, after 3 months of drought (for here this is very significant) we are now thankful we are on very high ground. For those of you with yourself, family or friends effected by the floods in Qld, NSW and or Vic, and I suspect soon the flow on will be into SA, please take care. I learnt the hard way once with my precious memories, please if you have not done so, backup them into two other places using CD's or memory sticks, one copy being easy to get to and one placed not easy to get to. I use my sister in Melbourne who keeps one copy of my backup, but also she can enjoy what I have done. This may seem to some a bit over the top, but you never know when you will need to use the far away copy/backup. 3. Thanks for replies to my posting re William Miller. I have details of his marriage to Ann Goss on the 9 May 1848, and their descendants up to the present. I am seeking the date and place of his birth. The entry in the SA Biographical book gives the 1 June 1817 as his date of birth, but without a place, I am unable to find his ancestors. There is a William Miller listed as a immigrant on the DAUNTLESS in 1840, which states Glasgow as his residence at the time of his application for Free Passage. Thanks Elaine.

    3. Thanks Ros! James Darch is a bit of a mystery man, eg. I haven't been able to find any suitable fit for him in England's BMD (perhaps he was just travelling through). He's immortalised in The Advertiser announcement 14th November 1892 of his step-son's wedding to Jean Darch, and in a lost-and-found ad he inserted in the same newspaper on 11th June 1891. He left South Australia for Cape Town supposedly in 1893, but I think it was in 1895. He died in Bulawayo, Rhodesia, in 1906.

    3. Hi listers I have a newspaper article from the Argus from a helpful lister, taken from The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.:1848-1954) dated Friday 26 January 1977 regarding: 'A young man, of respectable appearance, who gave the name of George A Wistrand and stated that he was an engineer....' George A Wistrand was sent to the Kew Lunatic Asylum. I would like to know details of his records kept at the Kew Asylum and when he was let out of it. What was wrong with him according to the Asylum records etc. The particular record does not appear available at the moment for me to order online so wonder if anyone has access to these or copies of them - I am unfamiliar with them. 3. The Advertiser Saturday 21 September 1929 pg 15 OBITUARY Another well-known member of the South Australian Corps of Veterans, Lance-Corporal La Folley, died at his residence, Cromwell-street, Adelaide, on Tuesday, after having been predeceased by his wife, who passed away a few days ago at the Adelaide Hospital. William Francis La Folley was born at St. Heliers, Jersey, on December 7, 1855, and, deciding on a military career, joined the Royal Highlanders, more popularly known as the Black Watch. He went with the 1st battalion of the regiment to Ashantee, and was at Amoaful and the capture of Coomassie, for which he received the medal and clasps. The behaviour of the regiment earned the highest en comiums from Sir Garnet Wolseley. The return march to the coast, under heavy rains, through swollen rivers, dense forests, and a deadly climate, added another well-won laurel to the honors of the regiment. Coming, after his discharge, to South Australia, Lance-Corporal La Folley became interested in the advertising and bill delivery business, and for years under took the delivery of handbills, book lets, and samples for wholesale firms. For a considerable time he had filled the position of a caretaker at the Bank of Adelaide. He has left six daughters—Mesdames E. Coombes, C. H. Round, R. Rochford, J. Thompson, H. Bugg, and A. Taylor. There are 18 grandchildren and four great-grand- children.

    2. Fiona Harris
    3. Thank you to Rhonda and Kylie for all the help with my HENNING research. It seems clear that there are some errors on BISA and some of the shipping lists which I will follow up in due course. For clarification for anyone who is searching this list in years to come, Carl Friedrich August HENNING was a son of Johann Friedrich HENNING (known as Friedrich), who traded as F Henning & Son in Morphett St. Friedrich arrived on the Pauline with his wife Wilhelmine Louise (maiden name TOURNEAU) in Dec 1849, together with 8 children. Carl was born c 1829 and was from Potsdam Prussia, as were the rest of the family. He doesnt appear on our family's list of children from this marriage, so he may have been born to a first wife of Friedrich, or he may just have been listed separately as he was already 21 years of age. (His naturalisation records indicate that he arrived in SA around the same time.) The most likely marriage for this Carl is to Louise KRAUSE on 8 Dec 1851 at Christ Church Adelaide, though no father's names were recorded. They appear to have had a number of children. There was at least one other Carl (or Charles) HENNIG in SA as well. He may have been from Lignitz, Silesia and possibly married a Johanna ? Helena (maiden name KOHLER). He was born in 1842 and arrived in 1848 on the ALFRED. Best wishes Fiona Fiona Harris Western Australia Researching HARRIS, FAIRFAX, WOOLAGHAN, WHITSED, FAIRWEATHER
