    1. [AUS-SAGEN] DNA Testing.
    2. Leonie
    3. Hi listers...More I read, the more confusing...However, Would DNA prove to me other people ,{family} who would be in my family tree. Mine stops in Ireland in 1878 when the Rileys left for Australia, so could it show other Riley's all over the world who WOULD be my Rileys'?... And does it have to be a male testing..therefore like my son...even though its my mothers line...I have no brothers..And then I guess you have to hope they are prepared to exchange information, hoping you can hook into the family from back there in Ireland... appreciate any advice or ideas..Thank you Leonie

    3. Having an Irish ancestor named Spain (the name was used by veterans of the Spanish War and has connections to the Armada) and a Scottish ancestor who was a McDonald from Islay (may be descended from Somerlad) I think I might get my brother to have a DNA test. 3. I have done DNA testing on me, my husband, my mother and my grandmother. We went through FTDNA, and are all about to test again with 23andMe because of their current discounted prices. So far we've turned up: 1) A distant cousin who had the same uncommon surname in her Gedcom (Skermer). We very quickly narrowed that down as the area of interest, and sure enough were connected - she'd heard of our branch of the family. She wasn't interested in swapping much information unfortunately, once she worked out we weren't connected very closely. 2) We had someone on my husband's side who had a name change and some other things which had happened in the family, and through various other sources we'd begun to suspect a person in her family was also in our family only using a different name. DNA was one of the methods we ascertained we were right, as her father and my husband matched. We have NOT been able to confirm the actual relationship we'd started testing to find out about, and nothing else so far, but we live in hope of interesting finds in the future, particularly with a few non-paternity events on my father's side (we don't know the identity of either of her grandfathers).

    3. Dear John, There is a gathering of the Kingston Clan at Drimolegue in County Cork in Ireland from 23 to 28 August 2013 and as part of the gathering DNA is being tested. See kingstongathering2013 or the Kingston DNA project at www.worldfamilies.net. They also have a Facebook page - The Kingstongathering2013. I will ask the group who exhumed my great great uncle, Charles Cameron Kingston (ex Premier of SA) to pass on his DNA test results for the project. Dear Listers, Just before I close the whole subject of William Andrews....wonder if someone has the address for an old Business Directory from Melbourne around 1840 to 1870, this man died in 1871. He apparently had been a carpenter, and thought it was worthwile to see if he was listed. with thanks, Sieglinde.
