Hi Lyn, I think the Carmelite nuns were the only ones in Adelaide who took a vow of silence. They had a convent at Myrtlebank. There were seven nuns who came from the Carmelite Monastery in Kew in Vic about 1935. I dont know whether the list below is all inclusive but there is not Walshe among them. The property was sold in 2009. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-22974465 The names of 205,000 people once restricted to overgrown graveyards and dusty archives have been liberated for the world to see. Brompton Cemetery in West Brompton, west London, is the first of the "Magnificent Seven" London cemeteries constructed during the 1830s and 1840s to digitise its records.
around 1900 - 1915, at an annual town picnic day, in SA, a cigarette race was held. can anyone tell me what that was please?
Hi Lyn I went to Boarding School in Adelaide in the early 80's with the Dominicans at Cabra. I remember a strong Carmelite Community up the Road from us on Cross Rd Glen Osmond. The Carmelites are a contemplative order and may be who you are looking for as they are often said to be a silent order I had a look on the web to see if they were still there as I no longer live in SA. There is a website with contact details http://www.carmelite.com/nuns/default.cfm?loadref=35 Noeleen Sent from my iPad On 21/06/2013, at 2:56 PM, "Lyn Baker" <[email protected]> wrote: > I am searching for a family member that we believe was a nun in an order in Adelaide around 1975. Hello all, A good way to 'test' activity of a List is to go into the Archives of the List and you can see from there what posts have been made. Cheers Wendy >> Excuse me sending a test message but haven't had any mail for 4 days >> >> Cheers >> Sheelagh
