Dear Listers Some years ago I found a list on the Internet giving the date coverage of BDM Indexes Book Numbers. Does anyone know where that is now? Specifically I am looking for the date range for book 149A for births. Many thanks Ian in Perth

Hi Paula BUROW is a name that appears in the ancestry of many of the German families in South-East Qld. Many came to Queensland, and descendants marry into my BEUTEL and KAPERNICK ancestors from the Queensland side of my family. It is possible, although not conclusive, that I am a BUROW descendant myself. BUROW is a French Huegenot name- the Huegenots were the name given to French Protestants (most of them belonging to the reformed church) that fled France and went to U.S., Germany, England and other countries because of religious persecution from the late 1600s to the early 1800s Some of them went across the Rhine and established settlements on the other side of the German -French border. As Prussia spread its territory, the Prussia king encouraged them to settle in the poorer territories of Prussia to help establish those territories. Thus, many Huegenots, including the Burows, came to the area of Germany north-east of Berlin that is now known as the Uckermark, and is close to the Polish border. There is a lot of information on Ancestry on the Queensland BUROWS if you are a member there. Do you know who the parents of your Ferdinand BUROW is? Hi Listers I am hoping sks on the list might have the CD for the South Australian Police Gazette 1898, 1900 & 1903 & would be willing to look up a name for me please. Via google, I have come across excerpts on Unlock the Past for the South Australian Police Gazettes, in which Bertha Burow appears in the index. Unfortunately the sample pages included on the pdf file only show the index & not the actual article pertaining to her. She appears to have lived in Robertstown with her parents. I found her death at Eastwood & the burial information gives her residence as Parkside. I'm thinking she might have been a guest at the Parkside hospital. As yet I haven't had the chance to go to Cavan (which is where I believe the records are held) to search the hospital records or even to see if she was actually there. I'm thinking that there might be further information in the Police Gazette if it is acutally about the same Bertha. Thanking you for your time once again. Paula
Hi Paula, This may sound silly but have you tried putting the name into Google. I did. Quite a few things came up. I also have access to Ancestry but not exactly sure what you are looking for. From the voting lists it seems there was an extended family living on Pimpana Island. The George you refer to may not belong to your friend. There were no direct lists of assisted emigrants to SA in 1869, instead, emigrants arrived at Port Melbourne, on the vessels named above, and then took coastal steamers to Port Adelaide. At first we didn't know how the women who had arrived at Melbourne on the Gresham, had gotten to Adelaide, but then I found this ... thank you Trove !! >> The s.s. Penola, Captain F. P. Snewin, left the Queen's Wharf yesterday morning, for Adelaide, via the intermediate South Australian ports. On reaching the bay she went alongside the immigrant ship Gresham, from London, and took on board a number of single women, who have come out in the Gresham, for Adelaide, via Melbourne << The 1831 Quebec steamboats are coming along very nicely. After finishing the earlier newspaper issues, I moved back to the beginning of the 1831 steamboats and I must say, I think the 2nd trip of the ST. LAWRENCE has been my most favourite... maybe ever. It was a little frustrating because rather than numbering the emigrants, the compiler just numbered the lines. He was however very precise about the passengers with first names of the head, instead of initials, and relationships indicated, like sister-in-law, brother, brother-in-law and even father-in-law. Because of his numbering, I now have it confirmed that there was NO fare charged for children under 3 years. This means that if the other lists don't show enough children when someone finds possible ancestors, by reading numbers and the fare, we now know that those lists just don't record the under 3 children at all. Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic).
