Dear Listeners, Here is an interesting one. I have a birth certificate for Lilly Marion Kingston born on 8th December 1888 that shows Charles Cameron Kingston as father and Priscilla Black as mother. Lilly was born at Halifax Street, Adelaide. CC Kingston was Premier of SA and was married to my long suffering great, great Aunt, Lucy May McCarthy. He was exhumed recently in an attempt to match his DNA to Malcolm Simpson through Genevieve Dreshler but that proved inconclusive. The tests showed a DNA link to Peter Beaumont from Queensland whose Great Grandmother had worked in the Kingston household. It is rumoured that CCK had a second child with Priscilla Black who live near Port Lincoln. Any information about this rumour or the fate of Lilly and her sister would be appreciated. It is also rumoured that CCK was the father of Albert Augustine (Bert) Edwards born 6 Nov 1888. Bert's father is not known but he displayed similar characteristics to CCK. Jane Lomax-Smith who has researched Bert may have more information. If you can shed any further light on this saga, please let me know. Best wishes, Richard McCarthy Sent from my iPad
I agree with Teresa. The library has a wonderful supply of records and the museum is excellent. Both are hard to access from NSW but I have made the trip a couple of times, ( once on a bicycle but that won't happen again), if only to see if my gr gr grandmother's black wedding dress is still near the entrance of the museum. ( Phillippa Meincke nee Bray) No doubt the museum struggles at times for volunteers as does any organisation especially in country towns. I wondered if Kapunda has a local paper that is indexed for Ryerson but there isn't any Kapunda paper being indexed. Even the Adelaide Advertiser only has indexed entries in Ryerson for 5 days since April 20, 2011.Only 4 other South Australian papers have ever been indexed and there are no entries for any South Australian paper since June 2012 in the Naracoorte Herald. Don't South Australians die? If you use the Ryerson Index and want to see if your paper is covered, on the Ryerson home page, top left corner click on Newspaper coverage and look for the paper of interest. I will pick the Adelaide Advertiser as an example as it tops the list. Click on the title. When that opens click on DETAILS OF DATES INDEXED. You will see the date of every issue that has been indexed. You might suddenly realise why the death you wanted to find isn't in Ryerson. Ryerson needs volunteers too. If you are interested in getting involved look at the item "So you want to be an indexer?" on the left side of the home page or "Can you help?" on the right hand side Regards David Central Coast NSW

Sent from my iPad Hi all For a number of years I have been doing mine and my husband family history under one file on Legacy. When I go into reports I seem to be able to ask for one report of the family that I want to see and it works. I have even printed a report for each family. I for some reason am thinking if I am going to fall into a "big hole" the further I go and should I try and fix it up before it stops working for me. The trouble is I have no idea what to do. There are approx 1300 people Is there any kind soul who can explain in layman terms what I should do I should say I also have this "double up file" up on the web as well With Thanks Sheelagh Wiles

Hi Chris They don't do research, but the last place I lived if you asked a question about a family who'd been there for a couple of generations and ran a business you could find out quite a bit about them. The town where I grew up (and where I've just returned) I've learned a lot about the early days and the early settlers. In regard to my family, I thought the fact that one operated a taxi service in the early days of motorcars would have been of interest. The same man was heavily involved in racing, trotting and coursing and was an SP bookie. I'm not knocking the volunteers, they do a fantastic job. I just hoped they would have something on this family. Maybe I'm just used to living in places where everyone knows everyone elses' business. Hi! All, Wondering If any one has come across a distant cousin of mine Eleanor Giles Worley when born she was named Hilgrove Worely brn 1888. her mother was unwed and her daughter was put into care Any Ideas would be great cheers saräh
I think it's great when "new" people move into a country town and then get involved with some form or another of a community group/event. And I am sure that the people at the KAPUNDA MUSEUM would all be volunteers.. doing the best that they possibly can to help visitors to their beloved township. But there again, I didn't realise that the Volunteers at this Museum also did research for any one who needed information for their Family Tree's, I understand the skills required in Family History Research and also (from experience) know the disappointment after sending letters/emails or travelling many kms, to come up against a big black zero.. Some of my Ancestors have left their foot-prints within a local community... but the majority of them certainly did not. I am sure the Kapunda Museum would appreciate a copy of the photograph and the obituary of the lady in question... One never knows who else may have an interest in this family in the future. And I firmly believe in sharing information, as long as the "source" is quoted. I found a newspaper article saying it was in the family till 1938 can someone please check Judy
There is a book on SA flour mills. 'Flour mills in South Australia', by Lindsey Harrison, University of Adelaide, 1979. This states there was only the one mill. It states, 'The first mill was built for William Robins in 1862, and was sold the late 1870s. He rebought the mill in 1909, and owned it until at least 1917. It was still operating in the mid 1930s. A reference quoted is 'Cyclopaedia of South Australia', pp. 224 and 383.
