    3. *2/4th RESERVE MOTOR TRANSPORT COMPANY* Is there anyone in Victoria, SA and WA who has any connection with the *2/AIF unit, the 2/4th Reserve Motor Transport Company?* This unit served in Malaya <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Malaya>and Singapore from April 1941 until the fall of Singapore <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Singapore>. Then most of its members became PoWs (Prisoners of War). Some returned to Australia. I am researching and writing the unit’s history. It was raised in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia in the period late February and March 1941. The whole unit left Fremantle on the 19th April 1941 for Singapore. I am anxious to talk with anyone who has a connection with any member of the unit. *I can be contacted on 08 85622257 or email: [email protected] <[email protected]>. If anyone would care to write, please send your letter to Tony Wege. PO Box 408 Nuriootpa SA 5355*

    3. Hi everyone, it’s been quite sometime since I was last on this site so therefore I have forgotten a few things in regards to adoptions. When my mother passed away last year, we found out that she had had a baby and given it up for adoption. She would have been about 16yrs – 17yrs old in aprox 1945-1950 era. We don’t know for sure the exact date. My family are also interested in finding this child so my question would be, How do I go about obtaining the records? Would there be a record kept stating names, father’s name, the sex of the child, etc? When/ where ???????????????? Many Thanks to whom ever can help, Kind Regards Robyn

    3. Hi Emm, Have you got the book or the details from the 2006 Book re Clarendon& Kangarilla cemetery Historical records by the Friends of Kangarilla/Clarendon cemetery, as it has more than 20 entries for THREADGOLD but NONE for MEAKER....which is a bit strange if they were Clarendon/Kangarilla ites! But I see James & Emmeline MEAKER (below) moved to around Alberton/Queenstown area after 1910-1914 era. They also have over 10 entries for surname MUNDY which was: (a)Emmeline MEAKER's maiden surname for wife of James William MEAKER who married in Clarendon. (b)William MUNDY whose wife was Mary Ann nee THREADGOLD and they are buried in that cemetery. I have that book if you would like details of the Threadgold & Mundy burials in it . If you or anyone else on list are interested the book, it is about 1cm (Half an inch) thick, and has all the burials in the cemetery and lots of additional details about those persons buried there. It may still be available for purchase from Mr Robert (Bob) E. Burnard of 23 Stonebridge Drive, Aberfoyle Park , Adelaide, SA Telephone (08) 8358 6303, who is also willing to accept any corrections additions etc for the Friends reocrds. I personally dont have any Threadgold or Meaker connections though. regards Freda ----- Original Message ----- From: "emmjaye" <[email protected]> To: "'South Aust list'" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 3:56 PM Subject: [AUS-SAGEN] THREADGOLD/ MEAKER family > Hi, > > Anyone researching these families from Clarendon? > > Emm > AUS-SAGEN Archives are here: > http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/AUS-SAGEN/ > > Websites of Interest on our Blog: > http://aus-sagen-genealogy-websites.blogspot.com/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I am still trying to break down the massive brick wall regarding my great grandparents Patrick Walsh and Bridget O'Loughlin. I am frustrated as to when and where they arrived in australia from Ireland. Anecdotal evidence suggests that they were married before arriving but you never know...or do IF you can prove it. Could someone look up the following to see if there is any connection...ie did this Bridget marry patrick in Australia...??     _SHIP CONFIANCE, 858 TONS (OLD MEASUREMENT), CAPTAIN ROBERT MCCARTNEY, FROM PLYMOUTH 10TH JUNE 1854, ARRIVED AT PORT ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA 12TH SEPTEMBER 1854_ _O'LOUGHLIN BRIDGET 20 SERVANT   CLARE WITH FAMILY_ _O'LOUGHLIN MARY 20 SERVANT   CLARE WITH FAMILY_ Regards....George

    3. Some more thoughts on this issue... If the birth was registered in South Australia, then I think it must have occurred in South Australia. I'm going to change the way I show Lilian JACKSON's birth in my family tree program, to show her born in the Burra district, and registered in South Australia, but with a note stating that the family was usually resident in Broken Hill. Cheers Peter

    1. Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Birth in Broken Hill

    3. Hi Ian Yes, it's a bit ambiguous in the index, isn't it. The help entry in the Digger program for this field states: "Birth Place/Residence. This field may contain the child's place of birth or the parents' residence or the informant's residence. Preference is given to birth place, if stated. The mother's residence is used if the parents were living separately." It seems that this field in the index can be based on several pieces of information in the original certificate. Obtaining a copy of the original certificate should reveal all. I haven't obtained a copy of the original certificate for Lilian JACKSON, so I can't tell exactly. Perhaps she was born in the Burra district (exact place not stated on the certificate), and maybe her parents were usually resident at Broken Hill. Cheers Peter -----Original Message----- From: ian simon [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 19 November 2013 8:05 PM To: Peter J Williams Subject: Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Birth in Broken Hill Thanks I am aware of these entries. They are ambigous in that the field combines place of birth and residence. So which is which? Cheers Ian in Perth

    3. I think the mining families were very mobile, and sometimes births were registered in other colonies/states shortly after moving, or perhaps when visiting relatives. I'm interested in one of those 23 births, re my 4th cousin: Lilian Letitia JACKSON, b 6 Apr 1894 Broken Hill NSW, registered Burra SA 541/375 She died about 18 Sep 1897 at Broken Hill, registered NSW 7771 She was buried 19 Sep 1897 at Methodist Section, Broken Hill Cemetery, exact burial location not shown on http://www.bhcemetery.com.au/, burial number 13736. Her parents were William JACKSON 1865-1918 m 1890 Lavinia RALPH 1874-1949. Lavinia was my 3rd cousin once removed via her mother Anne Maria WILLIAMS 1854-1909. Their other 5 children were born in Broken Hill and registered in South Australia. So, in this case, I think Lilian's birth may have been registered during a visit to relatives back in South Australia (Lavinia RALPH was born at Yelta).
