Hello, I live in W.A. I have or should I say had been using current electoral rolls in order to locate members of the families I am researching so I can contact them by letter to add and ask for their stories, this has worked very well. This last week I went to the local electoral office to find that I cannot do this now, despite the fact that the computer is in the entry to the office and provided with a chair. All you are allowed to do is look for your self on Rolls, well I know where I am!! This Information was Australia wide and very useful, has this happened Australia wide,? While I can understand the reason for this, I did notice on the note on the computer also forbade searches for Lawyers and for the reason of other things. I had been in there before when the staff was all busy way behind the counter talking about their activities on the weekend and family problems, perhaps I should just go in there on a Monday morning! Would be happy to find out if this restriction is Aust. Wide. Chris in W.A.
Has any one else had this problem and knows what it is? I have been locating some death notices for Victoria, the more recent searches have been 1935 and 1938, the items have been located but when I try to read them without all the digital garble I am receiving in large bold letters .. 400 Bad Request and under this in smaller letters, your browser sent an invalid request. I don’t think I have experienced this for other states and the entries are not overlaid in grey and saying “coming soon” Any input appreciated, Chris in W.A.

She appears to have been put in state care in 1904. Emily married John Cossich in 1905 I have 3 letters showing Emily was living with a brother and hoping to place Jeltina in temporary care until they could adopt her but it doesn't appear that happened, rather she went into state care and stayed there or was adopted out. The information recorded in entry 368 of 1904 in GRG 27/9 Register of Admissions to Industrial School reads - Ackland Jeltina Caroline 12mths born 15.10.1903 regd. mother Emily Beatrice Ackland c/o Richard Ackland, Bridgewater father Jelta Slater wood carter Stirling West Court of Committal - Dept Reason for admission - Sentenced until 18yrs being a neglected & illegitimate child whose mother is unable to maintain, vide 908 /04 Date of leaving - 13 Oct 1904 Where gone - Subsidy to Mrs W Hill of Walkerville ? Please note if you reply to this query make sure you reply to Rosslyn Gallagher and the list Admin Ros :-) ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rosslyn Gallagher <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2014 12:07:20 +1100 Subject: Charles HURREN - Senior & Junior Hi all I have been a very quiet subscriber for a long time so it is about time I posted a query. I am wondering if anyone has the Biographical Index Of South Australians 1836 - 1885, if so could they please look up Charles HURREN, I believe there is one on my g grandfather. I have his wife (Amy Catherine EMERY) children and siblings along with other information i.e. he was in the Masons and have found quite a few newspaper items in Trove. I am also looking for any information on my gg grandfather Charles HURREN Snr. who was married in Adelaide on 18 Sept 1856 to Charlotte NUTLEY. I believe he worked on the ship Fire Fly (Merchant Navy) from which he was discharged on 6 Dec 1856. I have been told that records of marriage state he was 31 at the time of marriage giving a birth year of 1825, he died on 31 Dec 1890 and notices in the newspapers state he was 71 which gives a birth year of 1819. I have the children of Charles & Charlotte Any information is welcome and very much appreciated. Kind regards Ros
Dear Listers, Just trying to find out some information about Thomas Brook's 2nd wife. I think she had been a widow when she married Thomas 29/9/1863 at the Wesleyan Chapel. North Adelaide. Her father's name was Samuel Bird..which must have been her maiden name. Going by the date she married and she had been 33 years old, believe she was born c1830. thank you, Sieglinde.
Hi Mary Ann, I believe that the house in Dry Creek area of which you are talking was and still is in the area East of the Yatala Male Prison and immediately West of the early release cottages on Grand Junction Road, Northfield. The house now has other buildings around and in front of it. If you google Grand Junction Road Northfield and then enlarge it to show five cottages with whitish roof's there are 3 driveways immediately West of those 5 cottages off Grand Junction Road next to each other The left (most Western) driveway has a vehicle on it, then the centre driveway leads to a large building in front of a tiled roof house which has other buildings now attached to and in front of it. I dont think that is the house the original poster was looking for as it is a very modest tiled roof house. After R.M. left SA, I understood a daughter lived in that house for some time. I dont think all of the land was compulsorarily acquired in Sir Thomas Playford 's days but the area of Walkley Heights suburb and some along Grand Junction Road known as River Walk, Walkley heights and including the house land were still owned by someone in the family till much later. R. M. Williams Drive is the horseshoe shaped road which are the only two entrances to the main portion of the suburb of Walkley heights off the Wright Road.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._M._Williams this web page indicates that RM built his own home and lived in the Yatala/Dry Creek area north of Adelaide. When his land was compulsorily acquired by the Playford Government, RM left for Qld vowing never to return. Know this isn't answering your question, but thought it might be of interest. Hello list, Can someone please tell me the location in Adelaide of the mansion of Governor Gawler, which was later the home of R.M. Williams, who featured in the ABC documentary, Family Confidential, last night? It was a very handsome home and despite "googling", I have found little to help me. I have this birth record for Elsie: Digger - Federation Index. Victoria 1889-1901 Surname: RYAN Given Names: Elsie Event: B Sex: F Spouse Surname/Father: Wm Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Eliz HOLMES Age: Age Code: Birth Place: MELBOURNE WEST Death Place: Year: 1894 Reg. Number: 31405 I have checked the Victorian CD records for a possible death or marriage up to 1920 for her with no result. I have also checked the Victorian death CD for her up to 1985. Could SKS please look up the Victoria CD 1921-1942 for any records that may show her death or marriage. It is possible that her mother Elizabeth RYAN nee HOLMES married twice again to FARRELL and PRENDERGAST - so she may have adopted these names.
