In the event of the closure of our list I've created an AUS-SA-YORKE list on the groups.io platform & several listers have already signed up. To make it easiest to transfer over I intend to send an invitation to every existing AUS-SA-YORKE subscriber from the list to join https://groups.io/g/AUS-SA-YORKE The message will carry my name in the invitation......that's only because I'm List Admin. Those wishing to subscribe to the new list will need to click on the " accept the invitation" link in the message. Those of you who have already signed on will need to do nothing more & can just ignore the message altogether. Kim List Admin
I Admin 14 lists and have created a similar list for each of them on the https://groups.io platform. I'm as new to it as anyone else, but it's free & operates just like our existing Rootsweb lists. It will no doubt take quite a bit of time but, instead of each current lister having to sign up individually, I might send an invitation to each lister singly & then you will have the option of signing up or ignoring the invitation. I should point out that no-one will be automatically transferred......if you ignore the invitation you won't become a subscriber to the list. Rootsweb has sent the following:- Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. However, as an alternative, I've created a list on the https://groups.io platform which operates in the same form as the present Rootsweb system. You can find it at https://groups.io/g/AUS-SA-YORKE and if you scroll down to the lower left you'll find the links to subscribe, unsubscribe, post messages etc. I should point out that Rootsweb lists will operate as normal until the 2nd of March, 2020. Hello subscribers to the aus-sa-yorke mailing list. All Rootsweb mailing lists have been nearly dead for the last two or so years. In February this year, Rootsweb upgraded the software that runs their 30,000 or so mailing lists, and after a few teething problems, the system is now up and running. The archives of past posts are gradually being restored, but this may take months. Subscribers may notice minor differences. The main difference for you is that you can register as a subscriber and then be able to adjust options for how you receive emails (e.g. single posts or digests in plain or MIME format, halt mail while on holidays and a few more things). Or you can leave things as they are. As a reminder, the purpose of this mailing list is for anyone with a genealogical interest in the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, Australia. For questions about the operation of this list, please contact the list administrator at aus-sa-yorke-owner@rootsweb.co <mailto:aus-sa-yorke-owner@rootsweb.com> To post to this list or respond to a post, use the email address aus-sa-yorke@rootsweb.com Your list is back up so if you want to keep this list active and going, please post your queries or information to the list.
