    3. Kay, I appreciate your interest and am hoping for renewal of activities in the new home. I think I see you on the new group but with a different email address. Is this correct? Don't want you to miss out on anything. Feel you have already advised me that I'm OK.Didn't realise I had belonged to so many in my early days of research. I received so much support during those early years so hopethat with the new era life can begin again in Groups.io. Have found more research to be done in Western Qld - when health improves - so I will be using the new list. 1. [Aus-Qld-Western] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [Aus-Qld-Western] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. I just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best Wishes, Jim

    3. Hi Folks I am trying to find the place of death and burial of the above STINCHCOMBE person who died in Queensland on 8/7/1918. In the Cairns Post of 23/11/1918 there is a list of names of various persons all over Qld in relation to “Orders to Administer Estates” and it mentions Thomas Stinchcombe late of Mandangie, labourer, deceased intestate. I have been able to find mention of a Mandangie Station on the Georgina River, perhaps west of Dajarra and I have also seen mention of a Dajarra to Mandangie Road. But I cannot find Mandangie on any map. Perhaps it has had a change of name. I have not been able to find his place of burial. If he died on the station (Mandangie) then probably he is buried there. I have found various references to Thomas Stinchcombe on Trove. He was married to a rellie of mine, Margaret Jane BRERETON (nee FRAZER) and they lived in the Winton-Boulia area. She died in Winton in 1915 and is buried there. In 1908 Thomas shot an Aborigine in Boulia and was charged with murder. I think the court case may have been held in Charters Towers but I have not been able to find out the results of the trial. Thomas was once a carrier in Winton and his wife once had the 20 Mile Hotel on the Winton to Boulia Road. I would be grateful for any help with any information on just where Thomas died and where he is buried and the location of Mandangie Station or any more information on Thomas other than what I have. I also have the names of all Margaret’s children she had with her first husband, Thomas Andrew Brereton. Thank you . Ian Kelly Sandstone Point, Qld.

Dear Ian, Since it was mentioned that Charleville maps / records were lost because of flood damage, perhaps historical Parish / Shire / Region maps might be worrth searching: https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/arts/heritage/museum-of-lands/maps-plans/ I don't know if any are on-line like NSW but you could make enquiries via the e-mail address on the above page. Also the property close to Charlesville, known as Lacevale, on account of Mr. H. F. B. S. South .. The way I read it the vendor was Mr. South, but I could be wrong. Could Bowman have bought it in 1911? The Australasian (Melbourne), Saturday 27 May 1922, has an interesting article about a plane missing the Charleville aerodrome and having to “land at Bowman’s Lacevale selection, about three miles out of town”. Bet that caused a bit of excitement in town! Given the close proximinity to Charlesville, I wonder if a road may have been named Lacevale or Bowen, but doesn’t seem to be. Still wouldn’t hurt to get in touch with the Council. Another avenue might be to contact the Longreach Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Only 515 km apart, but that was nothing in the old days, especially for a race day! You might be lucky enough to find someone who has heard of Lacevale because of a horse or a rider. No harm in trying. Cheers Barbara

    3. Thanks for all that Kerry and shall pass it on to the Bowman rellie. Cheers Ian -----Original Message----- From: Kerry Raymond Sent: Friday, October 23, 2015 9:27 AM To: 'Ian & Margaret' ; aus-qld@rootsweb.com ; 'AUS-QLD-WESTERN' Subject: RE: [AUS-QLD] Lace Vale The latest mention of Lace Vale (also written as Lacevale) that I can find is in this 1936 obituary: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article76555507 It is not clear from this if the property was already called Lace Vale in 1912 or that was the name that Bowman gave to it. Bowman sells the property in 1924: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article80560832 where it is described as "a few miles from Charleville" to James Espie. The only electoral roll entries I can find are for Esther Bowman living at Lacevale, Charleville in 1913 and 1922, which is consistent with the information above. This 1944 map of Charleville shows many properties and homesteads around the town but I did not find any Laceville (but it's a big map so maybe I missed it but I can see Mortlake one of the other properties owened by Bowman). http://www.nla.gov.au/apps/cdview/?pi=nla.map-vn5758809-s1-e My sense is that after the sale in 1924, it was probably amalgamated into a larger property and this is why it does not appear on the 1944 map.
