South Burnett Times, Tuesday, November 25, 2003 Obituaries South Burnett Times, Tuesday, November 25, 2003 Obituaries Doris TURNER (1929-2003) Dot HARCH was born in Laidley, Queensland on November 28, 1929, the fourth child of parents Ernest and Martha HARCH. Dot had four brothers Les, Cecil, Reg (deceased), Doug (deceased) and three sisters Elvie, Valerie and Gloria. In 1930, when Dot was 10 months old, she and her family moved from Laidley to a selection of land in the Booie district. Dot was educated at the Booie State School. She always rode a horse to school and she fell off a few times too. Dots first place of employment was working for Mrs MANT who owned a dressmaking business in Kingaroy. Dot worked for Mrs MANT for nine years where she became an excellent seamstress. On September 26, 1953, Dot HARCH, 23 years of age was married to Henry TURNER, 24, by Pastor ADLER and the date of her funeral was only 12 days short of their 50th wedding anniversary. On December 29, 1954, Dot and Henrys first son Wayne was born, followed by Trevor in Dalby, Warren in Tara and Glen in Kingaroy, each two years apart. Dot also spent time working at STEHBENS Shoe Shop and Mr and Mrs MCLEODS Drapery. In 1981, Dot and Henry purchased a butchering business in Haly Street [Kingaroy] where they toiled for five years before moving to the Kingaroy Mall for a further five years until they both retired to their new home and garden in Freeman Court [Kingaroy]. Dot enjoyed playing ladies tennis and golf before taking up the game of lawn bowls which she thoroughly enjoyed. It did not take her long to master the game in which she had many achievements, but her greatest job (sic) was playing bowls with her family. In 1992 she became president of the Kingaroy Ladies Bowls Club and 10 years later in 2002 she became ladies president for the second time, and with great difficulty with her health managed to finish her year. Dot loved to be cooking, dressmaking, travelling and spent a many hours in their beautiful, big garden.
