South Burnett Times, Tuesday, December 16, 2003 Obituary Vivian ARTHUR (1904-2003) A well known former resident of Coolabunia, Lewis Vivian (Viv) ARTHUR passed away in Brisbane recently, just eight days prior to his 99th birthday. Viv was born in Lismore in 1904 and moved with his family to Coolabunia at the age of four years. He was educated at Coolabunia State School, then worked in the district until he took up his own property in 1930, and established a dairy farm. He married Florence BRANDT (Flo) and together they raised four daughters; Phyllis, Shirley and Ailsa, who now reside in Brisbane, and Betty currently living in Sydney. He was widely known to residents of the Coolabunia area and adjoining districts, and could be relied upon to render assistance to anyone in need, notwithstanding his priorities on the home farm. Viv continued to improve his dairying and agriculture property over a period of many years, until he retired to Mansfield, a suburb of Brisbane, in 1971. Following their move to Brisbane, Viv and Flo directed their energies in becoming active with the Meals on Wheels service to those less fortunate than themselves. He moved to a retirement village in 1983, due to his wifes failing health. Vivs passion was gardening and wherever he lived he maintained a beautiful garden and orchard, and embarked on a tree planting program that now beautifies the spacious grounds of the retirement village. He continued his gardening activities at the village until his 97th year, when he became too frail to work outdoors. He was a God-fearing man who dedicated his life to helping others. Viv ARTHUR, laid to rest at the Redcliffe Cemetery on Friday, October 31, will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
