Hi all, Can anyone tell me where Mt Thalor is/was? William GLASBY was living there in 1906 when his son Thomas married Kitty WOODHAM in Warwick. Cheers Jan

Drayton & Toowoomba Cemetery I would suggest checking indexes to Supreme Court probate files. If such a file exists, it should contain the death certificate (and our death certificates are very informative) plus the will and various other documents. Note that you may need to check indexes to both wills *and* 'intestacies'. Despite the name, the latter series does contain many wills. There is a brief article about these sources on <www.judywebster.gil.com.au/tips-qld.html>. Theoretically you can also search for surnames from this index using ArchivesSearch, <www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/>, but as ArchivesSearch is not always reliable, a negative result there doesn't necessarily mean that there is no police staff file. The original files vary in content and size (some have hundreds of pages). You often find the original application and character references, plus various documents giving age, height, weight, hair and eye colour, complexion, religion, trade or special ability, whether a horseman or cyclist, whether a member of any secret society; when married, wife's maiden name, children; by whom last employed and where; how long in Qld; names, residence and relationship of other relatives; dates of recruitment and swearing in, where stationed and when, and any favourable records. If there are Misconduct and Punishment Sheets, the accompanying reports and correspondence may be very detailed. I have also seen some files containing correspondence relating to an officer's subsequent employment by the NSW Police Service. Note that women did not join the Qld Police until 1965. Hi everyone! I am researching the Gill family which arrived in Australia at Maryborough on the "Duke of Athole" in 1881. The worked in the sandstone quarry at Helidon. I am looking for grave sites and information on Marta Ann Gill (may be buried under the name "Gilbert") possibly at Murphy's Creek. Other name of interest are:- Mary Jane Gill - died 1922 - burial place unknown - would have to have been in the Helidon - Murphy's Creek area. Ernest Gill George Henry Gill - supposedly owned land around Murphy's Creek. Walter Gill who was in the police force but "resigned". Supposedly had 4 or 5 bullocks used to drag logs out of the bush at Murphy's Creek. Also supposedly his bullock team led the first Carnival of Flowers procession. Thanks in advance for any help. Terry
Hello from Brisbane I notice that you regularly produce a list of typed notices and wondered how far back they go. DIECKMANN Christian (Arbeiter) aged 40, Wilhelmine aged 50, Auguste aged 17 and Carl age 14 - from Milmersdorf were also passengers on this voyage.
