South Burnett Times, Tuesday, November 25, 2003 Obituaries Rev Eric Roy MOORE OBE (1926-2003) Eric MOORE was born at Wondai, Queensland, the fifth son of Paul and Annie MOORE. His only surviving brother Gordon resides in Kingaroy, the other four brothers predeceased him John, Raymond, James, Stanley. Eric was educated at the West Wooroolin school and after scholarship (the first to sit from the school) he went on to Brisbane Boys College where he passed his junior exams. His college education was interrupted by the death of his father in 1942 and two of his brothers at that time were serving in the armed forces. He entered the ministry of the Methodist Church as a home missionary in 1947 and began work in the Mackay district, working from Proserpine to Sarina for a year and covered over 30,000 miles on an ex-army BSA motorcycle. At this time it was all dirt road. He lived in the rear of a church and was ordained in Brisbane in 1953. During training he served as a probationer at Wooloowin and Redcliffe. He was responsible for opening up the work at Clontarf, where a temporary building was erected so a church could be built later. In 1953 he married Jean TAINTON and they raised three sons and a daughter. Jeans father, Rev Joseph TAINTON worked the Wondai Methodist circuit in the late 1930s. Eric served the church at Bundaberg(1953-56); Croker Island Mission, NT (1956-61); Brisbane Central Mission (1962-65) and Ipswich Central Mission (1966-91). He was also secretary of the Presbytery of West Moreton (1977-80), Moderator of the Queensland Synod (1984-85) and chairperson of the Presbytery of West Moreton (1989-90). He served on a number of the committees of the Queensland Synod. Throughout his ministry in Ipswich he was heavily committed to building up the community service areas. He guided the expansion of the Blue Nursing Service (domiciliary into the Lockyer Valley, Lowood-Rosewood, Esk-Brisbane Valley-Kilcoy and Fassifern Valley). He took the initiative in establishing the West Moreton Aged Homes Council, a group comprising representatives of the Blue Nursing Service and Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches. He filled the position of chairperson until his retirement in 1991. He completely upgraded other existing nursing home accommodation, established Lifeline Ipswich and was its founding director. Eric was awarded Citizen of the Year by Ipswich Chamber of Commerce (1976), Queens Silver Medal (1977) and an OBE (1980). Aware of the needs of disable people he founded an industrial laundry which employed 90 disabled persons. Ipswich Central Mission moved into the area of placing disabled persons into full time commercial employment in the community and supporting them there. Erics last major task at Ipswich Central Mission was to lead a campaign in which $1 million was raised to redevelop aged care facilities. He took initiatives that led to the restructuring of the Ipswich Ministers Fraternal. Eric went on to serve at State and national levels community service areas within the church. As a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ipswich Grammar School for several years, he played a vital role in the development of new buildings at the school. He upgraded the staff superannuation fund. Jean and Eric retired to Rainbow Beach in 1991 where they became actively involved in community and church. They were chaplains for Centres for Retirement Living at Gympie, both at Winston House and Grevillea Gardens. Ill health resulted in Eric being admitted to Winston House where he lived until his death on August 1. ________________________________________________ Message sent using Dodo Internet Webmail Server

Dot had four brothers Les, Cecil, Reg (deceased), Doug (deceased) and three sisters Elvie, Valerie and Gloria. In 1930, when Dot was 10 months old, she and her family moved from Laidley to a selection of land in the Booie district. Dot was educated at the Booie State School. She always rode a horse to school and she fell off a few times too. Dots first place of employment was working for Mrs MANT who owned a dressmaking business in Kingaroy. Dot worked for Mrs MANT for nine years where she became an excellent seamstress. On September 26, 1953, Dot HARCH, 23 years of age was married to Henry TURNER, 24, by Pastor ADLER and the date of her funeral was only 12 days short of their 50th wedding anniversary. On December 29, 1954, Dot and Henrys first son Wayne was born, followed by Trevor in Dalby, Warren in Tara and Glen in Kingaroy, each two years apart. Dot also spent time working at STEHBENS Shoe Shop and Mr and Mrs MCLEODS Drapery. Dot enjoyed playing ladies tennis and golf before taking up the game of lawn bowls which she thoroughly enjoyed. It did not take her long to master the game in which she had many achievements, but her greatest job (sic) was playing bowls with her family. In 1992 she became president of the Kingaroy Ladies Bowls Club and 10 years later in 2002 she became ladies president for the second time, and with great difficulty with her health managed to finish her year. Dot loved to be cooking, dressmaking, travelling and spent a many hours in their beautiful, big garden. I just want to say to all those with whom I have had communications with during the past year a thank you for your friendship, information and encouragement. It has been exciting and fascinating to learn so much about our early families via the lists and individually. Thanks to the many contacts on these lists I almost know those relatives that I never knew as a boy. Thank you once again and may you all enjoy this festive season with lots of family. This year we look like having all our children together for the first time in many years and maybe the last time ever. As the family grows the contact seems to lessens. God be with each and everyone of you and I look forward in 2004 to maybe doing something worthwhile with the knowledge you have provided. SO I will be back to annoy you all after the season is passed. He said that eh had a copy but when he got back to Melbourne he had lost it. I wonder if anybody knows what he is talking about and can I get a copy please. South Burnett Times, Tuesday, 31 December, 2002 Family Reunion Packs Them In: Elijah PACKER died on 28 December 1902 and was buried at the Blackbutt Cemetery on 29 December. One century to the day of his death and his burial, more than one hundred of his descendants gathered in Blackbutt to celebrate this familys pioneering history and tell of the legacies that time has unfolded. One of the organisers, Elijahs great great grandson Don BARNEY, of Bundamba, said the PACKER family history started in Australia when Elijah immigrated to Australia with his family on the ship Bulimba departing London on 9 September 1885, arriving in Brisbane on 5 November the same year. The farm settled by Elijah is still in the family today, and one of the highlights of the weekend was a visit to the farm which has gone through many changes. Mr BARNEY said PACKER descendants came from all states of Australia, except West Australia, and even a woman from England who was visiting relations. We have asked her to search our family in England, he said. The weekend, four years in the planning, was full of activities centred at the showgrounds, and the community hall. Tours throughout the district were conducted to points of interest of the family history including Elijahs farm. A speakers corner consisted of family members seconded to tell stories of their young days and stories that have been handed down through the years. A thanksgiving service was conducted on Sunday. In the early days many family members were involved in the Salvation Army, and there will be Salvation Army officers at the service, Mr BARNEY said. Mr BARNEYs mother Mrs Dorothy BARNEY has been a staunch fighter to keep the Salvation Army Church in Blackbutt when there has been threats in past years to close it down. The grave stones at the Blackbutt cemetery read Elijah PACKER died 28 December 1902, 66 years, also his dear wife Mary Ann Rosina died 17 June 1907 aged 69 years. Elijahs son is buried alongside. His grave stone reads Sid A PACKER 1871-1956. Mr BARNEY said another reunion is planned for 2008. ________________________________________________ Message sent using Dodo Internet Webmail Server

Hi Is there some kind person who goes to the Toowoomba Cemetery on occasions who would try to find a headstone and see what is written on it? The deceased person is Christopher Ganzer and he died on 19th May 1946 aged 79. The cemetery records state that his grave number is T883, section R/C 6, block 3, allotment 49 and he has a headstone. I suspect that he was the 2nd husband of Helena Florence Ganzer, nee Harris whose first husband was John Christian Klein. Thanks in anticipation. Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Qld
