Looking for any descendants of James GEDDES(GADDIS), born 1863, Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland, migrated to Queensland 1863/64, married a Charlotte GARRETT at Highfields in 1886, and had four female children, three of whom later married. They were: Sarah GEDDES, married Harry Thomas Lowndes GOFF, in Toowoomba in 1913 - it appears they had 4 children, all of whom died young. Elsie GEDDES, married Edward Leslie STARK, in Brisbane in 1915, but lived in/near Toowoomba - no children known. Gladys GEDDES, married Edward Ferdinand STOLZ, in Toowoomba in 1920 - no children known. Hi all, I'm chasing a hunch and need your help. Susan SATCHER (my ggrandmother) married Charles WILLIAMS in Brisbane and had two girls in 1879 & 1881 in the Toowoomba/ Warwick area. Mary Ethel & Eva Ruth WILLIAMS. Charles was a Boot and Shoemaker. Susan's sister, Emily SATCHER married Henry LESLIE at the home of Mr Robert FALKINER at East Prairie, Darling Downs. and had two boys in 1881 & 1883. Henry Giles and James LESLIE. Can anyone help me to identify where "East Prairie" is/was and does anyone recognise any of the above names? I am hoping that East Prairie was a well known area at that time and the Mr Robert FALKINER was a well known person in the area. If so, I may be able to move onto the next phase and start chasing the family tree from other 'associated branches' instead of trying to find them the conventional way. Thanks Neil WILLIAMS ******************************************** Researching the names, ENGEL (Germany > QLD Aus) MANN (Norfolk Eng > QLD Aus) RYLAND (Surrey Eng > QLD Aus) SATCHER (Hamsey Eng > QLD Aus), WENZEL(L) (Germany > QLD Aus) WILLIAMS (Manchester Eng > QLD Aus), ******************************************

Hello All I am researching early photography in Australia and in particular the lives of Queensland's early photographers. As part of my research I trace the genealogy of the photographers. I am interested in hearing from the descendants of any of the following photographers that worked in Toowoomba. I already have substantial info on the asterisked names. If anyone has any daguerreotypes known to have been taken in Toowoomba I would be especially keen to hear from them. My Toowoomba website is located here: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msafier/photos/toowoomba.html The names of photographers I have identified as having worked in Toowoomba between 1855 and 1920 are: Annie Bain James Bain William True Bennett F. Albert I am doing a one name study of McMorran everywhere in the world. I have traced McMorrans that came to Australia and also those that went to NZ, USA and Canada. Many are not related to me but I have learnt an incredible amount about my own family through the process and discovered many distant cousins with whom I am in periodic communication. I always ask for permission to web publish info supplied and if the sender wants their email details listed so they can be contacted. Since my web site has been on line for 7 years I suppose I have always known to ask this first. I must admit I have not necessarily sought permission from people that have written to me by regular mail in the distant past but most would have known my study info was intended to be disseminated to others. Despite the thousands of names on my site I have only once been asked to remove info in the case of a divorce. My main site is: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msafier/McMorran/mcmorran.html The sub site with the regional family listings is: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msafier/McMorran/mcmorran_index.html I mostly use the older program Netscape 5 Composer to create my sites which are fairly basic but effective enough I think. I now have Microsoft FrontPage as well but Netscape's free web authoring program is one of the more simple and useful programs I have come across. Cheers! I am not sure where I am going here but I thought I might give progress report on how my Hoffmann project has developed. First of all I would like to thank all those who have sent me data. It has been very beneficial and I have done some interesting work with it. Thank you again. I have developed 20 family tree of Hoffmann that came to Australia in the 19th century and are unrelated to each other. Among that 20 there is at least two families where there were sisters and brothers came out. I have the name of the parents who stayed in Germany while some of their off spring migrated. For example Johann Samuel Hoffman migrated in 1847 but his one sister migrated in 1839 and the other in 1849 while a brother remained in Prussia. I have about three other Hoffmann names on file that I cannot relate to a family and have no information on. I am certain that I do not have all the families. I am convinced from child hood memory that there is at least one if not two other families in Toowoomba that I have nothing about. My next move is to try and establish where they came from (I have this for most families), where they came to (I have this for most families) and what they did after they came here. I have per kind listers and mailers three or four interesting stories. I would like to some how compile this into a book of some sort because I reckon there is a story here worth sharing. It has been suggested that I should develop a website for Hoffmann in Australia. I wonder about the ethics. I wonder about privacy and privilege. I have no problem sharing what I learn and most of it comes off emails, websites and books available to everybody but I do know some people get concerned at public sharing of information. I would hate to breach a privilege some mailer gave me. In any case I would need to learn how to create a website. This is crazy but I worked don the installation of the first computer system in Australia, I was involved in programming computers before they were ever commercialised and now I am flat out using one. I need my four year old grand kids to show me how to do basics. How technology passed me by. Any ideas readily accepted Albert Grulke researching Grulke, Gill, Harvey, Volker, Proposch, Hoffmann, Kummerow, Mutze and a Hoffmann to Australia project
To Bob and other listers The Toowoomba and Darling Downs Family History Society have the records for the Garden of Remembrance as well as Drayton and Toowoomba. I have checked on Glenis Clark and she died 9th January 1988. I would point out at this time that we do have research officers at a very reasonable rate for anyone wanting more research done in Toowoomba. Bye Marie Green President
