    3. Because of the amount of those wanting copies of the 4 photos (1 of the monument & 3 close-up of the names) I had to order more. I hope to post them off by Monday. It was great to get such a large response. The names on the Monument are those who arrived with Lt. Col. Collins on the Ocean & the Lady Nelson in February in 1804. Most of the names are those of convicts, while a smaller amount were military and civil officials. A few were those who remained at Risdon Cove. 1. Children born before Marriage. Practice in genealogy?
    2. Di Randell
    3. Hello list Is there a practice, in genealogy, of placing children born to a spinster before her marriage? My great grandmother and her brother were born up to 6 years prior to their mother (a spinster) marrying. Their is no record of the birth of my great grandmother or her brother. Both, however, took on the name of their mother's husband, and claimed him as their father, when they married. Also, on their mother's death certificate (my great great grandmother) they are listed along with the children of the marriage. A lot of other people have done this family tree but they have completely ignored the fact that my great great grand mother actually had these two children out of wedlock. What is the done thing? Thanks for your comments. Di. R.

    1. Thomas and Emma KENYON
    2. Hugh Smith
    3. Has anyone on this list heard or know of either the above people living in Toowoomba from about 1878 to 1920's, they were my g-grandparents Thomas (1845-1927) was a carpenter and joiner and was skilled in building spiral staircases and listedas a carpenter in the PO Directories. Emma (nee Rider) (1850's - 1924) was a music teacher and played the organ for the Baptist church for many years. They came from near Manchester and immigrated in 1874 on the Indus to Moreton Bay, moved to Ipswich and then lived in Ruthven Street somewhere near St Lukes Church, for most of their life and in the latter years lived in Hatton Terrace of Neil street. Also does anyone know of a place called Tenterden in Hill Street, Toowoomba (Thomas's place of death) - is it some type of assylum - I know that Thomas suffered from alcoholicism. Thankyou .... 3. Yes Albert there was a furniture store called Rosenstengals in Toowoomba (not sure of the spelling either) I think it was in Russell street just above the railway line, on the right hand side going towards Ruthven Street. I remember it well, I think it was later turned into a dance hall or a skating ring. Pennies where I worked in Ruthven, ran right down behind the Rosenstengals store. Was there a Rosenstengals furniture store in Toowoomba in the 1940 and 50s? The spelling may be incorrect. I am spelling as I pronounce it. IO seem to recall one in I think Ruthven Street next to Burs tows. My Toowoomba family members visiting me in this the southern capital reckon there was not. Second questions is about funeral directors. I recall Burstow in a room behind their furniture shop, Hickey and Hickey in that street between Ruthven and Neil with a hotel on the corner, Hiram Philip up on the range I think in herries street. I also thought there was another owned by a German named Klienmeyer or Klienmscmidt or some similar name in a little shed building on a block of land near the railway line and on a swamp area and I thought Rosenstengals had a hearse also. There was also one in Bowen Street. Can any body clarify this please. 2. Kylie Veale
    3. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S.
