Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could put some light on the subject regarding the possible reasons why my GGGrandmother and her husband may have moved around. GGGrandfather lived in Toowoomba from his birth (1873) and his wife lived in Highfields from about age 17 or 18 (abt 1890). They seemed to have moved from The Toowoomba Area about or before 1892 and settled in Rockhampton. In Rockhampton, their first child was born 24 Sep 1892, Second child born 18 Nov 1893 and then they married 23 May 1894 in Rockhampton. Their third child was born 24 Mar 1895 in Toowoomba. Is it possible that there were more jobs available in Rockhampton that caused them to go there and live? Was Toowoomba in a slump at that time? Was there an established settlement of Germans in Rockhampton? I do know that both of them were raised speaking German and GGGrandmother never did seem to come to some mastery of ENGLISH. I knew her when I was a child and she spoke broken English. If any one can put some light on the possible reasons for the move from Toowoomba to Rockhampton, I would appreciate it. thanks, Beverly.
I think 1893 saw one of the biggest floods ever in South East Queensland
