Has anyone else noticed that their German ancestors are not present on any of the nominal rolls? I have looked through WWI and WWII nominal rolls and found none of my SEEMANN ancestors. I even tried many different spellings that were anglicised. I know that during the war the family dropped the final "n" to avoid appearing "German" but perhaps there was still a loyalty to the motherland which caused them not to fight? However, they immigrated in 1862 so quite a long time had passed since leaving - and it would have been grandchildren and great grandchildren going to war - all whom would have been born in Australia. Any comments? Regards Werona
Werona Both my SCHMIDT family members who served in WW2 are listed on the Australian War Memorial site. Try www.ww2roll.gov.au and click on "name" in the third paragraph. G'day Margaret, Which Schmidt family are you researching? I am the great grand-daughter of Claus Heinrich Frederick Schmidt and his wife Anna Maria Steckmeister. Do they link into your family? Margaret, Which Schmidt Family have you and your cousin researched? I am interested in information regarding Wilhelm Friedrich Schmidt. Wilhelm Friedrich Schmidt and August Schmidt have witnessed a Application for a Homestead document dated 2/3/1883 for my G.G. Grandfather August Frederich Ruhl. It also appears Wilhelm Friedrich Schmidt and August Frederich Ruhl had neighbouring properties. I have reason to believe that Wilhelm Frederich Schmidt and August Frederich Ruhl are related and would like to follow up on this theory. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Hi All, My HOEPPER family came from Prussia to Toowoomba in 1865 (La Rochelle) and I found eight of them on the WW2 roll. Their name was spelt a is. Haven't checked WW1 yet.
