Mary is pictured above with her one surviving sister, Elsie Niemeyer of East Ipswich (left), her only daughter Dolly Graffunder of Mackay and great-grand-daughter, Gina Graffunder of Mackay. Mary worked for many years as a domestic at Gatton Hospital. “Hard work never hurt anyone,” she told The Star at her birthday celebration on Monday. Norman and Mary took up residence at Tabeel in 1996. Norman passed away in June 1998. Joining Mary at her celebration was her one child, daughter Dolly, Dolly has three sons, seven grand children and four great-grandchildren. Apart from deafness Mary was well aware of the occasion. It was said she had been looking forward to it for weeks. She even joined in the singing of “Happy Birthday.” Relatives, friends and guests of Tabeel made it a top day and Mary was honoured with wishes of congratulations from the Premier, Governor, Prime Minister, Governor-General and a congratulatory card from Her Majesty the Queen.
