The Gatton, Lockyer and Brisbane Valley STAR, Tuesday, December 12, 1989 - Page 5 Harold Schultz was a dedicated farmer A WELL-KNOWN and highly respected resident of the Blenheim district, Harold Schultz, died at his home recently, aged 74. The late Mr Schultz spent his entire working life fanning at Blenheim where he was recognised as a tomato-grower and a very successful farmer. In conjunction with his father, Carl, Harold pioneered the production and harvesting of onion seed in the Lockyer Valley. No doubt his dedication to the land was responsible for an interest in the weather. From the age of 10 he kept records of the rainfall in the area. In September 1962 he married Beth Crossley, who had a son Selwyn and daughter Cleswyn (now Mrs Rogers) by a previous marriage. There are seven grandchildren from this marriage. Harold Schultz was prominent as deputy chairman of the very successful Blenheim State School Centenary Celebrations in 1979, gave many years of service towards the establishment of the Laidley Pioneer Village and was for many years an active worker for the Karinya Aged Home. At his well-attended memorial service at the Laidley Uniting Church, the Minister, Rev John Gillanders, described Harold as a silent worker in the community, who never sought recognition for his services, a farmer at heart with a love of producing crops.
