Hi Group, We were going over some old postings and found this one which we found particularly interesting. It was submitted by Jon Kehrer on 28 Jun 1999 and contained a newspaper article published "Country Intelligence. Ipswich. (From our own correspondent.) Saturday, February 22", Moreton Bay Courier, 25th February 1862, page 3. It contained a copy of an agreement made in Hamburg between JAMES B ATKINS of Koowona Qld, as represented by JOHANN CHRISTIAN HEUSSLER, and FRIEDERICH KUMMEROW of Tetzmick who signed his name with an X, and had emigrated with his wife LOUISA and child FREDERICK on that ship, and was witnessed by J.C. HEUSSLER, N.F. BALLIS and C. KUMMEROW. Basicly, it was a work agreement and criticism that followed. Has anyone else happened upon information on these types of agreements. Regards Noel & Del Bergman
Noel and Del If you go to the Archives for the AUS-GERMAN list, on 11 April 2002, I posted a transcript of a Memorandum of Agreement between Georg Wilhelm KOCH and H? E DECKER, on behalf of George LESLIE. The Memorandum (ie. Contract) between KOCH and LESLIE was located 'by accident', as it was included in papers relating to the 1858 Parliamentary Inquiry into German Immigration. A copy was kindly sent to me by a fellow researcher in Sydney who knew of my interests - a real 'fluke', for which I remain very grateful!I don't believe there is a collection of such Contracts in the respective Archives. It would appear that it's just a matter of luck if the odd one, here and there, has survived. Sometimes they turn up amongst personal papers held by a descendant.
