Hello Noel & Del, Have you read a "Colonial Father" The Story of a German-Born Queenslander J C Heussler as told by his great grandson Robert C Heussler published in 2001. I am pretty sure it is available in your state library. This book could prove very helpful as J C Heussler was the person responsible for the contingents of German emigrants (6653) under his auspices who settled to Queensland. Robert is still alive and visits Queensland from time to time. I know Robert and the Heussler family were delighted when the Heussler room was dedicated to his gt grandfather in their old family home "Fernberg" which is now Government house in Brisbane. Ships Cesar Godeffroy, La Rochelle, Alster, Beausite, San Francisco, Susanne Godeffroy, Johann Cesar, Wilhelmsburg, Helene, Peter Godeffroy, Sophie & the Wandrahm are documented in his book. As for the contracts that Lisa has referred to I have just sent you an e-mail with the complete National Library of Australia referrence details. I came across these papers of Joseph Docker back in 1997 but was unable to visit Canberra to view them, a friend copied them some years ago and I can send you details offline. You should also read *The *migrant* *shepherd* : Ober-Rosbach to Tenterfield / by E. Lloyd Sommerlad.* from memory I think there was a contract reproduced in that publication. Useful reading is the series of the articles published in the Journal of Burwood & District Family History Group about 15 ships have been expertly documented already. You will then get an idea of the government resources available in NSW which included Queensland prior to 1859 and then try to locate similar resources in Queensland located in State archives and libraries both state and national. I actually have a copy of the Kummerow work agreement. I am happy to find it and share it around. This is an interesting story because my wife's mother was Kummerow. The Fred Kummerow the infant son mentioned did not marry until his father died and he was by then middle aged. I have often wondered why he did not marry earlier. He had three sons and three daughters before his wife died. Then he married my great-grandmother and my grandfather and my wife's grandfather grew up in the same house. This then gets stranger because they seem to have parted as teenagers and never communicated again until close to their deaths. That Kummerow signed with an "X" interests me and maybe answers a few questions. I came upon the work agreement by accident. I have tried in vain to get the agreements for other ancestors without luck.
