    3. Very interesting, Darryn >From the first URL you gave: "His extensive body of audio-taped recordings of English varieties is held in the Department of English." So it looks like they still exist. It's a transcript of recordings of Pastor and Mrs Finger (and others) speaking English and German. There is also a transcript of Mesdames Volker, Gebrand, Vensler, Mr. Prenzler, Mrs Richter, MrGerchow, Mr.Behrendorf. Imagine if the original recordings still existed. We'd be able to hear what our ancestors 3 generations ago sounded like! It's not obvious that the recordings do exist though. Flint's primary goal was recording Aboriginal languages, a very interesting subject itself. http://www.library.uq.edu.au/fryer/ms/Flint/flint_catalogue.html http://www.library.uq.edu.au/fryer/ms/Flint/Box06_fm.html see documents 6.019 and 6.020 All the best, Darryn
