I've added a scan of a postcard from Boonah to Maryborough to the www.myfamily.com site set up by Jennifer. It looks about a hundred years old (okay maybe 60 to 80 years) and I think is in German. The handwriting is hard to read. Maybe someone on the list can have a look and hopefully it is connected to one of our families. I got the card almost at random off eBay. An amusing aside. I also recently bought a commemorative cover to Rev. Finger of Kalbar (Kalbar Lutheran Church). Pastor Finger married my Grandparents, and is connected to a few other church related family events. My Grandfather, on the other side of the family, told me about him and mentioned that he got some of my Gx2Grandfathers books. It's amusing to know he was also a stamp collector. Also many years ago I came across a reference to Pastor Finger in relation to the Flint papers held at the UQ Fryer Library. It's a transcript of recordings of Pastor and Mrs Finger (and others) speaking English and German. There is also a transcript of Mesdames Volker, Gebrand, Vensler, Mr. Prenzler, Mrs Richter, MrGerchow, Mr.Behrendorf. Imagine if the original recordings still existed. We'd be able to hear what our ancestors 3 generations ago sounded like! It's not obvious that the recordings do exist though. Flint's primary goal was recording Aboriginal languages, a very interesting subject itself. http://www.library.uq.edu.au/fryer/ms/Flint/flint_catalogue.html http://www.library.uq.edu.au/fryer/ms/Flint/Box06_fm.html see documents 6.019 and 6.020 All the best, Darryn p.s. Sorry if this email got sent twice. I've been playing with my email clients which has upset a few things. http://familyhistory.kulgun.net/
