The details on his death >certificate are incorrect... records which might list Carl's parents A few thoughts: * Did he have any siblings who married or died in Australia? If so, their marriage certificate and/or death certificate may give parents' names. * Hospital admission registers - see www.judywebster.gil.com.au/hospital.html. * Newspaper obituaries, marriage notices etc. for the subject's spouse, children, grandchildren, cousins etc. * Land records. This is a long shot, but I have heard of several case where parents' names are in Titles Office files. There is also a Lands Department selection file for Carl at Qld State Archives. * Probate files. Again, this is a long shot, but here is an actual example from my research: Margaret STAPLETON's death certificate says 'born Ireland, parents names unknown'. In her will Margaret left something to her sister Johanna in Ireland. Johanna's surname was spelt incorrectly in the will, so she had to prove that she was the person named as beneficiary. She was asked to supply her birth certificate, but couldn't because her birth had not been registered. Instead she sent a copy of her baptism record giving her father's name and mother's maiden name... and so Margaret's parents' names are revealed although they aren't on the death certificate. Answers to many questions about Qld research are on my Web site, www.judywebster.gil.com.au/index.html. It has about 100 pages of free information/advice; over 40,000 names from Archives sources, cemeteries etc.; and customised Google boxes to search my entire site. If you need to contact me personally, use whatever address is on my Web site at that time (NOT the one from which I sent this message). To reduce spam, please do not mention that other address in mailing list or newsgroup messages.
