It would be worth checking the one in between to see when he disappeared. It would be well worth contacting the Toowoomba and Darling Downs family History Soc http://www.tddfhs.org/ to see if they have record of him. BTW you might find his death a great deal later :( Judy > Hi all .. Women didn't have the vote then, Maree :) Judy > Thanks to Judy and Janet for your help ... I will have to keep looking .. > you can see what I am up against :( > > Judy did you see if Wilhelmine was with him at Quart Pot Creek ? I wonder > what sort of an area it was. > > Maree
Maree The locality of Quart Pot Creek became present-day Stanthorpe, on the Queensland/New South Wales border. Tin, and more importantly, gold, was discovered in the area in 1872. Up until this 'Rush', Maryland was the significant township in the area, but Stanthorpe grew with the influx of miners and others establishing various businesses to service them. Wow .. thank you so much Lisa .. It had been mentioned to me ages ago that he MIGHT have been a miner .. but I didn't know for sure .. that is great you found the miner's licence .. maybe that's how he died ? (I presume it was underground mining) I did contact a gentlemen earlier this year to see if Carl Franz or Herman, as he was called, was a miner who had died while mining in southern Qld .. but he said he didn't have anyone by his name on his list ..:( .. so I am still in the dark about his death.. but at least that gives me something else to hunt for. thanks again Maree -----Original Message----- From: Lisa Burton Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2010 9:16 AM To: aus-qld-se-germans@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SEQ-Germans] Webber and Zelle (Zeller) marriage Maree The locality of Quart Pot Creek became present-day Stanthorpe, on the Queensland/New South Wales border.
