Hi List, I'm sure none of us ever feel bored not when there are such great online resources to be researched. Trove can take up hours and hours of time but with some many rewards. http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q=celebrations+at+tarampa My ancestors attended Tarampa State School and in 2005 they held their 125 anniversary with a new book produced. On page 23 it said :- The 50th Jubilee was held and celebrated, but we have no records remaining apart from the Photos, below. We can be assured that this day was a great success. using Trove - The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864-1933) Wednesday 21 May 1930 p 23 Article SCHOOL JUBILEE. CELEBRATIONS AT TARAMPA. PIONEER SCHOLARS FETED. 20. Nearly one-third of the boys and girls who had attended the Tarampa State School on its opening day, 50 years ago, reassembled on Saturday at the golden jubilee celebrations, and answered the roll call. Great changes were noticed in the old school since the present building was erected in 1886. In those days what is at present a thriving settlement "was only scrub.- When the school was first opened it was situated on Grlenke's paddock, and the scholars had their first lessons in an old slab building, Mr. J. H. Stewart being the first teacher. JUBILEE SCHOLARS PRESENT. Those who answered the roll call were :-Anna Tessman (Mrs. A. Beutel, Brigalow), Arthur Twidale (Coominya), Otto Dargusch (Tarampa), William Dargusch (Bright View), Amelia Schroder (Mrs. F. Kuhn, Mt. Tarampa), Carolina Schroder (Mrs. W. Jackwitz, Mt. Tarampa), Carpas Schiesser (Frenchton), Emma Pakleppa (Mrs. Jacob Utz, Mt. Tarampa), Eda Genege (Mrs. Emil Neumann), Bertha Jackwitz (Mrs. F. Reinhardt, Laidley), Albert Jackwitz (Forest Hill), William Schroder, Edward and Richard Doran (past teachers). The head teachers during the 50 years were:-Mr. J. H. Stewart (April 1, 1880, to September 13, 1880), Miss Isabella Wheeler (November 2, 1880, to January 26, 1881), Messrs. Alexander Beaton (January 27, 1881, to January 22, 1882), James Wherry (January 23, 1882, to May 3, 1883), H. Mondlentz (May 5, 1883, to March 31, 1888), J. J. Conn (April 1, 1888, to April 28, 1893), Edward Doran (April 29, 1893, to December 31, 1906), Richard Doran January 1, 1907, to August 31, 1918), Alfred Farnsworth (September 16, 1918, to January 31, 1928). The present teacher (Mr. G. O. Anderson) took charge on January 30, 1928. The early part of the morning was spent by the jubilee scholars present in renewing old friendships. At noon the teacher (Mr. G. O. Anderson) called the first roll, and those of the original 44 who were present fell into line. When the roll call had been completed the chairman of the school committee (Mr. P. W. Beutel) welcomed the pioneer scholars, and expressed the pleasure of the committee at the very large attendance. He complimented the jubilee pupils on again visiting their old school. STUDENTS' ADDRESS OF WELCOME. Miss Lily Hayes read an address of welcome to the original scholars from the present-day pupils of the school. Mr. E. B. Maher, M.L.A., declared the celebrations officially open, and added his greeting to the old scholars. He stated the fact that they had lived for so long in the district was a tribute to the climate and to the district where they were born and bred. The State owed those old students, in common with the early pioneers, a debt that they would never be able to repay. Mr. Maher said that even in the midst of the celebrations and enjoyment they must not forget those original scholars who had been called to the Great Beyond, after having played their part in the development of a great district, and it was only fitting that they stand to attention and salute their memory. Mr. C. H. Jamieson, M.L.A., in supporting the remarks of Mr. Maher, traced the early settlement in the district, from the time when the land was dense bush and scrub. He stated that the pioneers had played a wonderful part in making their district what it was to-day. They had each contributed a share in the work of developing its wonderful resources, and in building up a sound and wealthy dairying industry. OFFICIAL LUNCHEON. The jubilee scholars were then entertained at a luncheon by the committee, when the following toasts were honoured:-"The King," "The Pioneer Pupils" (proposed by Mr. G. O. Anderson, and responded to bv Mr. Arthur Twidale, Coominya); "The Teachers, Past and Present" (proposed by Mr. E. B. Maher, and responded to by Messrs. edward and Richard Doran, and G. O.
