Hi Lorriane, I was recently researching my ancestors voyage from Hamburg to Moreton Bay on vessel Caesar Godeffroy in 1862 and learnt some very interesting details about life on baord immigration vessels, descriptions of the legal boat designs, toilets requirements and locations, food and medicine rations and the duties of The Cook, The Baker, The Teacher etc and also listed the daily/weekly rations/provisions provided to each passenger. One document states that the following were the weekly rations for each passenger on voyages expected to exceed 84 days: 3 quarts of drinking water daily 10 gallons per 100 passengers per day for cooking purposes. 3 lbs, 8 ozs Bread or biscuit (not of quality inferior to Navy biscuit) 2 lbs wheaten flour 1 lb oatmeal 1lb rice 1 lb peas 1lb potateoes 1 lb beef. 1 lb pork 2 ozs tea 1 lb sugar 2 ozs salt 1/3 ozs mustard 1/4 ozs salt and pepper ground 1 Gill vinegar 1 Gill lime juice 1 lb preserved meat 6 ozs suet 8 ozs raisins 4 ozs butter It also states that cooks were provided to cook the food that required cooking for passengers or that families could arrange to use on of several family stoves to cook for themselves. I also recall reading elsewhere that before departure each family had to purchase a "travelling kit" which included things like pots, utensils, blankets and soap etc for use on the voyage. If this is the type of information your interested in then please get in touch and I will point you in the right direction.
